Kyle Shanahan made it clear that he's less concerned with finding his "prototypical" quarterback and more focused on finding an elite player, which he believes will be there at three overall. #49ers

Does he need to improve his conditioning? Definitely. Is his game going to really benefit from him deadlifting 400 pounds and benching 325? f**k no. Its just a convenient thing people like to attack him on.
For a QB like Jones I'd much rather he spend his time working on his mechanics, honing his footwork and studying film. Clearly he's put the work in to understand the offense at the highest levels if they're having him tutor BOB on it.
It's not one or the other though. Being in shape is the bare minimum a player should do. Compared to mastering all of the other stuff, it's easy and any high level player should be trying to maximize every thing they can.

Possibly while drunk and eating Cheetos too, that is impressive

Dude looks like this:

Granted. But let's not pretend it's a STEM degree. It's a step above liberal arts..

I've seen the picture of him with his shirt off. He might be working hard now that the draft is approaching, but will he still be in shape when training camp comes around?

NC, watch this one. This dude is the best QB evaluator on the Internet that I've found. He's a former NFL QB and current QB coach.
Watch that throw at the 29min mark
Yet people want to question his arm strength and say he can't make spectacular off platform throws. There is tons of clips of him doing it when he needs to, he just didn't have to do it much in Bama's offense.
I know Shanny is seeing a younger more disciplined Matt Ryan, who also just happened to go 3rd overall too.
I feel like the ones saying theyll jump off a bridge if kyle drafts him, haven't actually looked at his tape
That's usually the case, unfortunately.
I've watched and watched trying to console myself. I just can't get behind it. I think a lot of you guys are trying to convince yourselves in case we do draft him. But a week ago, if a poll was put out on the zone asking if we should draft Jones at 12 people would laugh at it. Not to mention actually give up 3 first round picks for him.
Actually one of the pre trade polls I found was "If all the top 4 QB's are gone by the Niners pick, would you trade down?

Shirtless photo that contradicts a work ethic in 3....2.....
What will that look like without first reads running wide open, though? There are a couple of ways to judge that. The first is with PFF's decision charting that gave him a 73.8 passing grade when forced to go beyond his first read the past two seasons — the lowest of any quarterback in the top five here.

You should look up shirtless photo's of Ben Rothlisburger, Payton Manning and we all know how ripped Tom Brady was as a draft prospect....
We're talking about QB's here...not DE's or LB's.
If this is a guarantee that he is any one of those guys then I'm in. Minimum of 2 superbowls and max of 7.
Not trying to compare prospects but mac jones lack of a physique reminds me of when people were concerned about watsons velocity during the combine. Draft seasons drags on and when it comes to qbs things like these is put on a microscope. And yes I am on the side of not liking the idea of trading this much for jones, if he becomes an elite qb that wins us bowls and keep us consistently in the running, that's all that matters. Matters more then how hard he throws and how fast he runs. Just find the right damn qb.

It's overreactions to an older pic of a kid who plays a position that doesn't require being in incredible shape, so he didn't prioritize it over film study, field work, and his degree. Funny part is he's already looking in better shape today, meaning he's taking it serious right now, but some are ignoring that part and rather focus on an older pic to criticize him.
