In short - I don't think it's just about the injuries.

Its definitely more about the injuries. If Garoppolo stays healthy and plays last season the way he played in 2019, then the 49ers are neither in position to trade up into the Top 5 for a QB, nor are they looking to do so. We'd be talking about drafting a QB late in the draft to replace Beathard.

You can't trust Garoppolo to stay healthy, that is a really bad thing for your franchise QB since there's always a significant dropoff from starter to back up. If Cousins were the QB, I don't think that is an issue and Cousins just had a monster season for Minnesota. He wasn't one of the Top 30 things wrong with that team.

Exactly who are these mythical QB's that can win without a defense or run game? It isn't Rodgers, Mahomes, Watson or even Brady.

I never said we'd be in the situation where we trade for 3. I was saying - we would be in a situation where we are not sure if Jimmy is a franchise QB. We'd be looking for a franchise QB (thru trade or draft either this season or next) - regardless of his health.

You have never seen a QB carry a team on his back when the run game is off and defense is giving up s**t loads of points?

Russell Wilson had been winning with absolute crap around him. MVP level stuff

What happened to Lamar Jackson in the playoffs each time he's been there? What has Wilson won without an all-time great defense? Didn't Mahomes just lose to a 90 year old QB that you could probably beat in a 100 meter dash?

Lamar is limited in between the ears as far as his QB development but Fields ain't him. And Baltimore has Roman we got Shanahan

Well, we are in this situation bc we traded for Jimmy and gave him a massive contract. If not Jimmy - we would have done the same with Kirk - and I think we would have been in exact same spot if had Kirk instead of Jimmy.

Everyone can make mistakes - QB gurus as well. If we go with this standard - then pretty much all coaches know more and better than pretty much every fan and reporter - and we shouldn't question them at all.

Disagree. If Garoppolo could just stay healthy, we wouldn't be in this spot at all. One thing you can't say about Cousins is that he misses game, dude is rock solid.

We got beat when we were at our best by playmaking QBs. Lamar Jackson Russ and Mahomes.

We had a QB that could run the playbook but we got beat in that Super Bowl because KC had a game breaker at QB that could bend a defense to his will AND WE DIDNT and that had to be a hard pill to swallow for ShanaLynch as we thought we could scheme our way to a chip with a pocket passer and we got shown up when it counted

I don't want to see that happen to us ever again when we are picking at three and considering we've give up three first rd picks to do this

We better be getting a game breaker at this pick or else!

That ain't why we lost dude. I really don't want to track down the plays again, but we lost because Jimmy COULDN'T run the playbook except for the one-read plays. In particular, on two red zone third downs, Jimmy FAILED to run the playbook, because he FAILED to throw it to the wide open guy past the sticks. He locked on to his first pre-snap read, and failed to adjust post-snap -- like he FREQUENTLY does, and the result is we left EIGHT points on the board in a game we were up by ten with half a quarter to go. Turn that ten point lead into an eighteen point lead and let's see what happens.

One side note though: One of those third downs would have required a good, hard pass to a curl. A good QB could make it. Jimmy perhaps could not. BUT... there was an opening for an EASY scramble for the first down if our QB had any speed at all. So yeah, all three of these rookie QBs would have picked up that particular first down, either by quickly finding the guy and throwing, or stealing the scramble yards the defense left open.

Mahomes beat us. I think we all know the juggernaut we had on defense in 2019. He punked us with 5 minutes left in the game and we could do nothing about it

Wilson hasn't done too well in the playoffs since he lost Lynch and the Legion of Boom was broken up.

Winning what? They get to the playoffs and get beat early every year. Once the LOB fell apart, that was it.

Not for 53 minutes he didn't. He looked just as pedestrian as in the Superbowl; OK, no, that was far worse.

I know this is throwing to a beast in Devonta Smith. but he makes some really good throws in this video. You can see he has developed really good chemistry with Devonta.

When we were at our best we beat Kyler Murray twice, Aaron Rodgers twice, Russell Wilson once. But it's your story.

Exactly this. It'd be foolish to do otherwise. This is such a massive decision which will have repercussions for years to come, as well as affecting their own job status. Shanahan, McDaniel and Scangarello should be focused on nothing else for the next three weeks. Let Lynch, Peters and the scouts handle the rest of the draft board.

Totally agree. this is a dynasty level move. The affect of this decision could last a decade. Either for good or for bad.
