Please not him Kyle... I watched his Pro Day and then Fields' Pro Day back-to-back. The fact that this is even a discussion is laughable. Mac is not worth 3rd overall.

I'll be honest. I've talked a lot of crap about Mac Jones. But I will admit that he's better than a lot of people give him credit for.
I just wouldn't use 3 1st round picks to acquire him. If the Niners stayed at 12, I'd be cool with him...Just not at 3.

He wasn't going to make it to 12.

All I really care about at this point is who throws the best deep ball. We haven't had that for years, and Kyle wants to dial it up. We'd be seeking #7 this year if Jimmy could, and I'm sure that's not lost on Kyle. I've fallen in love with Fields over his highlight reel, Wilson will likely be gone, I think Lance is a 2+ year project. So how is Jones' deep ball?

Yep, I don't know how anyone can catch the tape and think, "this dude sucks." The guy balled out like crazy. Yeah, the physical traits aren't sexy, and yeah, 3 is reeeeeally rich for him. But he doesn't suck. I fully expect him to be really good under Kyle if that's the way they go.
I think where people are disappointed is they want a transcending talent(like a Mahomes), and Mac Jones--unless he's literally the next Tom Brady--is not that.

I can almost guarantee BB has a massive hard for Jones

Mahomes comes around every 20 years or so...
And very few folks had him as a top 10 pick if I remember correctly

All 5 of the top QB's can throw a nice deep ball.

This seems to be true. How many are consistently accurate in the pocket?
The number one attribute for NFL QB's?

Some even said they wouldn't touch him before the 3rd round

You are late to the party lol.
He is the best at quickly — and correctly — going through progressions and finding the open guy.
For an example of a contrast, Lance will go through progressions and skip a wide open guy, or fail to see an obvious wide open hot route during a blitz.
There is nothing uncontroversial about this. Everyone who has put in some time watching these guys sees this.
Each has strengths and weaknesses. Honestly, to me any one of them can find success here, and each of them needs to improve on things and will need to compensate for weaknesses.
lol what the hell does that mean? Nothing, uncontroversial? Do you mean it's controversial?
And while the other two QBs can be coached up on the progression part of the game, you can't coach up Jones' lacking arm strength or mobility.
You can try to justify Jones all you want, but there's NO WAY he's has talent worthy of 3 first round picks.
And before this trade, almost nobody considered him the 3rd best QB
Lack of arm strength? Dude has a stronger arm than Jimmy.
Shanahan may have considered him the 3rd best QB. If he's 5th, 5th is barely worse than 3rd.
1,2 >> 3,4,5.
You guys are losing your minds over a trait that in this offense will affect a handful of plays per game, if that (mobility).
lol "5th is barely worse than 3rd" !!!!!
That is quite possibly the most ridiculous justification I've heard yet!
I'd love if thats how Lynch tried to present trading 3 first round picks for the 5th best QB to Jed.
"He has middling arm strength" per PFF
PFF isn't the end all be all of scouts. They are useful. Jones' arm strength is enough to make every conceivable throw that any coach will design.
But as for the ranking, that's OUR ranking (fans). IF Jones is "objectively 5th," it's not by much.
But the point is OUR ranking is a fart in the wind.

It's going to be hard to match Mac Jones if you want to focus on consistency. Outside of a Kentucky game where he's at 66% completion he averaged mid 70s to 80% completion all season long. He was so consistent he set an NCAA record for QBR and completion percentage.
Consistency can be more of a concern with Fields however who had an incredible opening game completing 95% of his passes against Nebraska but then completes 44% of his passes against Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship and 51% of his passes against Bama in the Championship game.
Trey Lance unfortunately only really has 2019 numbers to look at and he was up and down but had games where he's completing 80% of his passes but also games where he's in the 50's and even one at 47.6%. He's a really young and raw special talent however. He can run like a RB but has a cannon that can produce top NFL level velocity while he played under center in a pro style system. Kid went undefeated in his college football career.

This mfer trying to manipulate Shanahan into drafting him by trumpeting that he "stays within the structure of the play."

Huh? Mahomes beat out mayfield and Webb...it's why they transferred
Pretty sure Mahomes didn't get a chance until Webb got hurt. That's what I read anyway. Webb definitely started the season as the starter.
