Mac Jones-QB-Jaguars

A lot of people still had Jones in the discussion, even after the trade. There's too much of what he does that is synergistic with Shanahan's philosophy on quarterbacks. In the end Shanahan could very well opt for Fields, Lance or maybe there's a surprise selection of Wilson but I also wouldn't be shock whatsoever to see him go with Jones.

People who have written off any one of these QB's for whatever reason might find themselves in for an unpleasant surprise on draft day.

This scares me too. However, what gives me hope is that Shanahan in his press conference talked about there only being 5 QBs where the team wins because of them. I cannot believe that Shanahan in his heart of hearts believes that Mac Jones is #6.

And yes, if I knew that Mac Jones was their favourite I absolutely would want them to keep looking and looking and looking and consider every option possible. But only if Mac Jones and Lance was their favourite.

I just heard from Kyle, he said Mac Jones and Trey Lance are their favorites.

What's your point?

That's not true. It's only true in some algebraic structures. There are an infinite many where it's not true.

In my opinion I think this whole thing with Mac Jones has been a smokescreen and that he probably won't even be drafted in the top 10.
Put yourselves in John and Kyle's position. Let's assume that Kyle has found his dream quarterback, let's assume for discussion that this is Justin Fields 1A(could be Zack).
but to be able to trade to 3 John and Kyle have to have another quarterback grade out fairly closely to justify using three first round picks on him. So let's assume the other quarterback is Zach Wilson 1B.
So the risky part of only being able to trade to 3, is that you still can't control whether you get your 1A. So there's still no way you can give any hints as to who you actually want to draft. Because the Jets could always trade out, what if the Falcons really love Fields and they throw a blockbuster trade at the Jets? You have to make it so that the Falcons (or another team) feel that they could get Fields at 4. So that they don't try and put a deal together.
That's why Kyle, when asked why they're going to Alabama's pro day he says... " now that you move up to three you don't have to hide as much". When have you ever heard a coach or GM give a hint like that when they weren't guaranteed to get their guy? IMO they're trying to convince the league that Mac Jones is their guy so that no one jumps them.
Everybody knows the jags are taking Lawrence, do you hear the Jets making a peep about who they're taking?

To play devils advocate, I think he's worth it. Now what?

Yeah we know they could all be busts obviously. But you just can't change genetics. Mac Jones has the lowest ceiling.
At best he's Matt Ryan, meh.
Fields' has all the physical traits to be at good as anyone.

Dout it. I don't see a future league MVP out of BigMac.

Obviously you still do the work. But that's not what you said. They have to have their two quarterbacks decided and it would have to take something huge for them to change their mind.

Yeah I don't agree. I don't think you bother going to multiple Pro Day workouts from four to five different QB prospects if you're locked in on one or two guys. I'm sure there's a guy that they would select if the draft was today but interviews, more film study and other factors could change that quite a bit in three weeks time.

If you don't want someone to try to move to #3 reading your hand? Or maybe allow you to move to #4 w/compensation?

Of course you do. There are alot of contacts to be made @ Pro Days aside from the players anyway.

I agree. Their Top 3 is decided. Last-second order can always change,...but they're obviously satisfied with the top 3.

Me either, "Cannot play with him, cannot win with him, cannot coach with him. Can't do it."

You're confusing the trade and the actual investment. Yes the net is 2. But to get the qb you are using the three 1st rounders, because you are using the actual pick on a qb.

#12 2021 pick
First round 2022 pick
first round 2023 pick

For

Rookie qb @#3 2021

So in conclusion, the 49ers will end up using 3 first rounders on a qb INSTEAD of using 1. They're forced to use 2 MORE first rounders on this qb.

You still don't get it do you
The Chris Simms AMA from today is great breakdown of the 49er's situation at 3
I agree with everything he's saying -- first 40 minutes or so are all about 49ers and Jones, Fields, Lance

The point is that they should do their due diligence on all of these prospects and I expect that they will. Nobody is out of the discussion. Most teams don't finalize their draft boards until a week before the draft so they've got time and hundreds of hours to check and double-check everything they need to.

Nah man, its definitely 4, I don't think you can entirely exclude Zach Wilson yet. It'll definitely be one of those and we'll find out for sure in less than a month.

Yup, that's what I said. But there's no way Kyle doesn't have a favorite. So why tip your hand and possibly provoke another team to jump you and take your 1A?
I dont get all this hate towards Mac Jones. This guy broke the FBS record with a 77.4 completion percentage. His worst game he still completed 66% of his passes. He also averaged 11.19 (2nd in FBS) yards per pass so he is chucking it down the field too, its not just dink and dunk which you would expect with such a high completion percentage. Kyle wants accuracy and someone who can hit the big play consistently. Like it or not, Thats Mac Jones!
