Why do people make this comparison? The two are nothing alike in terms of play style or skill set. But hey....the last name is the same so how different can they be? It's just lazy.

I think we are going Mac.

My preference is Wilson/Lawrence.

If it is between Mac and Fields, who I would like us to draft depends on if Kyle is able to put his pride aside and open up the playbook or allow for more off schedule plays. If we draft Mac it will be because Kyle wants an extension of himself to run HIS offense.

I would hate to see us draft Fields and Kyle put those handcuffs on him. If we draft Fields Kyle NEEDS to let him play his game. To me Fields is at his best when he goes off script.

If we go Fields we have to let him take chances.

If we go Jones we will run the same timing based pass plays we have been running for the past few years.

The bold says it all. Kyle is a HC today because of his play calling. The QB is simply an extension of the amount of work and effort he puts into game planning and play calling. Execute MY gameplan. There's a reason I called that play...often times, to set up another. He's so locked in on control of his offense, it's the C that makes all the protection calls; just one more thing off the QB's plate so he can direct the QB on the sideline.

If he goes the Fields route, there's a very real chance he loses a lot of control of his own offense. And he might be OK with that now.

But remember the comments he made about not wanting RGIII and Kaepernick? Because he'd have to redesign his offense around the QB and not the offense? That if he did that, he'd have to change it for the other 10 players too and that wouldn't be fair?

Here we are. It's 2021. What is Kyle going to do???

The age old question "can people change?" will finally be answered come draft day lol

I think he does both. I'm impressed enough with all three QB's pocket presence, and all three (including Mac's) athleticism that they all can - to a lesser and greater extent - execute off schedule throws. I think this is how it stands - I think a certain contingent of the 49er brain trust wants Fields (to a lesser extent Lance) and lets label that the John Lynch contingent, the other contingent is the Kyle Shanahan group that wants Mac and his pure pocket passing ability.

I think he does both - in this way. If it's Mac, he'll allow Mac more room to improvise but to a lesser extent than Fields/Lance. I think for Fields/Lance, he'll incorporate (for example) more scramble drills and actually spend a bigger chunk of time on those kinds of back yard football plays than the structured drop back passer plays. He'll just dust off some of Steve Young's scramble drill plays and modernize them for 2021.

Agree, if anything Mac Jones is more similar to Jimmy than to anybody else. In fact, I'm beginning to think that Mac Jones is a better version of Jimmy. Stronger Arm, bit faster on the ground, same (or quicker) release, hopefully a better processor, and more (hopefully) accurate.

No more lazy than people claiming Jones is the next Peyton Manning

Or Wilson is the next Mahomes or Fields is the next Steve Young. Lots of Hyperball being played this time of year.

This.

Since last week's trade, there's definitely been a lot more activity in the draft room. Lots of random claims.

...and I love it. It makes the Webzone a lot less boring...

P.S. ShanaLynch is now saying that they are open to trading Jimmy if it's at least a first round pick. That to me indicates they are going with Mac.

Haha it's a terrible comparison. Completely different skill set.
Mac is also a better QB prospect coming out then Daniel and that's coming from someone who's 10000% against taking Mac at 3

Actually I believe the exact quote was "he is Peyton Manning, but more athletic"..lol Implication being he will be better than Peyton
Uh oh. JTO'S has fields over Mac Jones and says he wouldn't understand trading up to 3 for mac

Anyway, why are there still matter-of-factly posts being made that fields wont be able/won't agree to run Kyle's offense, and that only Mac Jones will be an "extension" of Shanny? Why are there still posts that Fields is a only a running QB?

I wonder what a whole workout with the weights looks like.

I'd like to think he could change his body quite a bit with NFL training, in a non-suspicious manner, of course.

LOL wow. From the start, I always said that Mac's ceiling is Matt Ryan. I still stand by that.

Lazy "analysis" from people that dont watch the college game and then says "hes an Ohio St QB, ewwwww"

I wouldn't say so, It might count out Lance though....Let's be honest if you can get a first out of him you take it. Maybe the kid takes his lumps, but getting the QB of the future and still having a first this year? That is a monster offseason. With the exception of Lance who is super raw, I think any of these guys could hit the ground running and give us something close to what a healthy Jimmy was and by playoff time eclipse him in many ways. That isn't a knock on Jimmy I just think that all three of Wilson, Fields and Jones either give us something Jimmy couldn't that we could use to hide their youth (Wilson/ Fields) or are can give us exactly what he did for a lot less money. (Jones)
