It came with the trade up for Aiyuk
Mac Jones

Kiper 4th QB / 12th Overall
Jeremiah 5th QB / 32nd Overall
ESPN Scouts INC 5th QB / 19th Overall

Personally I think the *overpayment* part was having to move up a whole month before the draft, and basically telegraph the move -- but in such a way that nobody could steal a jump on you. I view it as more of paying the premium to take your time to make sure that the house you are buying (for example) isn't a dump but has been pest inspected, wood rot inspected, foundations are sound, roof isn't leaking, plumbing works, and there is electricity. All that takes time. And whether or not Mac was the target moving up to #3, the more important thing was to *not screw up the pick* whoever it was going to be (Mac or otherwise) hence the premium paid to hold the pick in order to do due diligence.

I think they paid the premium with a specific guy in mind. Mike Shanahan firmly believed that all you needed was to study the tape to evaluate a player, the in-person stuff wasn't necessary. KS probably leans this way, his dad is his greatest influence they say. It's possible, but I'd be surprised if he made such a massive trade just to get a little more elbow room for the least important part of the eval process.
Film study is very important, but it's not everything - specially if you are going to squeeze three number one draft picks into just one pick. Keep in mind ShanaLynch have been burned by Reuben, Solomon, Pettis, Hurd etc... they are going to take more more in depth deliberation regarding stuff you can't see on the film such as character work ethic, passion for the game and so on. The draft capital locked up in the #3 pick kind of demands that kind of intense investigation and scrutiny.

Fields and Wilson are 6x6 G Wagon

we aren't paying 6x6 G Wagon money for a Honda

Cook was more like a Yugo in this analogy.

And in reality we don't know what any of these QBs will be until after they've played a few years in the NFL.

If Fields and Wilson bust, then your two lemon 6x6 G Wagons aren't worth dick.

Jones is a yugo fully loaded

cook is a yugo with no AC

Think you're way underestimating Jones. I wouldn't be the least bit shocked to see him be a good long term NFL starter. Cook was never even a good backup.

Jones after 17 starts is a much better QB than Cook was after three years of being a college starting QB.

Lol not my objective, just laying out all the facts. I don't expect anyone to change their stance...I'm just mind blown that there's legit people in here they are cool giving up all that for him. I've never seen such a overrated player and he might be coming here lol unreal

did you not say he's not gonna be good or turn into a bust?

You know what else those "masterminds" have in common? Trubisky over Mahomes
To say Kyles's MO coming in was secrecy, it's funny how the media is running with the whole Mac Jones thing.

Didn't he hire John Lynch with the condition that he keep it a secret and he wanted the organization to run with closed mouths. How is it all of a sudden Sims predicts us with Mac and now its's a thing.

Who is starting all this Kyle loves Mac talk?

Cook is the floor , we haven't seen Jones in a difficult situation IMO . That Alabama team was stacked and I hold it against him when it involves that much capital . I'm not shocked if many of his teammates have a better career than he does .
