But why? That's the question.

Because he's a journalist and he's clearly listening to the mass media to write this article. He had no clue SF was trading to move up...he was all but certain that they were not gonna move on from Jimmy, he had no idea they were looking at QB prospects this hard for the past 6 months and the focus from him was if it would be a CB/DL at 12. So clearly he doesn't have some great insider knowledge on this topic.

No one is telling MM who SF is drafting. He 's doing what a lot in here are doing which is guessing by looking at who Kyle liked in the past and who fit's that mold. Before FA started he was talking about Kyle trading for Kirk in his pod smh.....Thing is Kyle said specifically that's not what he wants in his presser. He was very honest and for whatever reason some people are pretending like he didn't saying what he said on Monday....I find it pretty weird honestly.

ALSO Nick Wagner said SF was all in on Watson before all the off field stuff (and if he became available) in what world is Watson plan A and Jones plan B? They're polar opposites. Passed on Brady, passed on Stafford, moving on from Jimmy, I'll bet they could have traded for one of Ryan/Kirk for less...said nope.

None of us know where this is going. Kyle gushed about Josh Allen after we lost to the Bills. We were rumored to trade for Stafford. We were rumored to trade for Watson. We were rumored to trade for Minshew. All these QBs are different. We have no clue what Shanahan wants and the media acting like they know do it for the easy clicks.

Totally agree, I think our offense would be special with Fields, but I understand Kyle if he picks Mac. My feelings won't be too hurt. Again, Mac isn't a statute that everybody portrays him to be. He's a decent scrambler too, just as Fields and Lance are decent pocket passers.

Like I told my friends right when the trade happened:

it doesn't matter who we pick, I'm just ecstatic that this team is taking a real swing on a QB and I trust Shanahan to get his guy, he's never really hand-picked a QB before, so whoever he picks I'm good with. I can see the positives and potential in Fields, Lance and Jones. I won't be upset with any of those guys, or Wilson if he's somehow there. But assuming Shanahan nails this pick, we'll have a rookie QB under contract for 5 years, which means extending some core team leaders.

but when the news broke last Friday, my initial gut reaction was that this was for Mac Jones. I always wanted us to trade up, I was previously all about Fields, but about 2 weeks ago I started warming up to Mac Jones. By last Thursday I was 50/50 on Mac and Fields up until the trade, and was actually thinking Jones would go before Fields and we would have to get to 7 to secure Jones - because 8 is Carolina and Jones is very similar to Burrow who Carolina's OC had worked with at LSU.

And then post-trade I dove deep into Mac Jones' tape, loved him the more and more that I watched, and re-listened to some Shanahan talk about QBs, and Mac Jones just makes too much sense that I'm convinced it's him

... but if I'm way off and we draft Lance or Fields instead, then I'm just as excited and won't be disappointed like all of these anti-Mac people who will hold a grudge into the season if they don't get their guy

I wish everyone had this attitude toward prospects. Seems like people get stuck on certain players and then refuse to budge and then make this place toxic as ever. I really can't understand how anyone can actually watch Mac Jones play and then say with a straight face that he doesn't have the qualities to be taken high. ALL 5 QB's HAVE QUALITIES TO BE TAKEN AT #3. Some just want that dual threat so he doesn't get included in the conversation. If we draft him, I'm staying the hell away from this place for a little while because I bet every thread is going to be whiny people calling for Lynch and Shanny to be fired and I can't block them all.

to all the bolded. I'm just excited whether it's Mac or Fields or Lance. Heck, even before the trade, I was all in on Mills or Trask if we missed out on someone in the 1st. I trust Kyle. I trust him to get the best out of any of these QBs and we have the roster to help develop that.

Hey I know I can be a dick in here....I'm not gonna deny that I'm very passionate about the draft and of courses my Niners. I put a lot of time into watching, reading, listening to everything I can in regards to the draft.

I've been waiting for over 20 yrs for them to make a move like this and for people to tell me that Jones should be the pick and here's why....I simple can't relate or get on board with that.

If we trust Kyle to get the most out of any QB, why would it be the guy with the least amount of overall talent?

I can't believe we got a month left lol. My birthday is the 30th (so a night after the 1st rd) really hope it's a birthday

I'm 100% with you. I trust Shanny. He's a football lifer and this decision is going to be tied to him for the rest of his career, meaning I don't think he's being stubborn or taking this lightly AT ALL. He's going to get the guy that he feels gives his offense the best chance to perform at a HIGH LEVEL. None of us truly know who he wants and this is all speculation, but I trust that whoever he selects will be properly groomed under him and become a star QB in a year or two.

My post definitely isn't directed towards you (although I can see where it might, lol) but I get it. I LOVE draft season. I spend way too much time on it whether it's watching the college games over and over so I can have a better understanding of future prospects on the team.

Mac at 3 could be hard to swallow, even from a Mac fan. With this QB class being so talented, Fields on this offense can be so dangerous, so I can see why the less-sexy selection in Mac at 3 would be difficult to get onboard with. It doesn't change our offense very much from Jimmy besides being available and potentially more accurate deliveries. Something I have to keep telling myself is as long as it gets us the wins that we need, at the end of the day, that's what matters. Whether it's Mac or Fields.

LOL. You definitely fit the national "NY" stereotype: brazen, outspoken, opinionated, unwavering, aggressive, lacking tact, etc.

That said, I personally know you have conviction because you've done your h/w and you feel locked in as a result.

Anything that offsets that is going to trigger you.

At the end of the day, Kyle will have that same exact conviction but it may not be for your guy. That's what we need to remember here, right or wrong.

There is going to be some serious crow eaten for years to come whether he ends up being right or wrong. It's his career. We're just witness to it.

Honestly IMO the whole Jones talk is more media driven and outside people trying to connect the dots. Regardless of what our own HC said about it this past week.

Al has connections inside that organization, he's called a bunch of other stuff in the past and just said this...


Albright said it's just media talk and everything he hears is Lance. Who knows lol.

You can win games with Jones, you can win games with Jimmy or a handle of other okay QBs under Kyle too. The difference between Jones and say Jimmy/Goff/Kirk type guys is slim. IF that's the kid they wanted they didn't have to throw 2 1sts out there either.
