Mac Jones-QB-Jaguars

Overall, Jones deals with pressure well, but he's not going to create plays when the protection breaks down. I don't believe all quarterbacks have to be out-of-structure maestros, even in today's NFL, but if you're exclusively a pocket passer, you should have amazing arm talent to make up for it. Jones is a below-average athlete with a below-average arm and very good accuracy. If you draft him in the first round, you're betting that his mind can develop into Brady or Drew Brees-like mastery, because his intelligence will ultimately be what can separate him. His physical ability gives him little room for error.

LOL. That's nothing.

Zactly, Brady is the definitive pocket passer. Mahomes 300% more rushing yards

Times aregonna pass us by, there is a reason nobody really seeks out the immobile QB. Pocket QB just don't offer as much. But Brady won the SB. Nobody is or will be Brady, never gonna happen. Sorry. Brady also had Evans, Brown, Godwin, Gronk, Fournette, and R. Jones. Really? 5 pro bowlers. Wouldn't you want to get as much out of a play as possible. All 5 top guys have the arm, four of the five have the arm and the ability to create and the ability to run for 20yds when a play breaks down. Don't care how fast you process, plays break down. Gimme the guy who the defense have to worry about when he has to start moving not sloth boy with the great process skills.

Ah. I feel better now.

Something about this "second read passer rating" I keep seeing here.

In 2019, this same state had Aaron Rodgers going from 96.5 on his first read to 74.9 on his second read.

It had Patrick Mahomes going from 105 on his first read to 89.

What is this stat and why is it the end all be all when it says that Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes are s**t tier at their second read?

This is all dumb. The only thing that matters is the tape. Period.

I'm worried if we draft Jones he'll eat our second round pick.

But why? That's the question.

probably because its his job? idk. or maybe the niners are "leaking" stuff to get the Jags or Jets to pick someone other than their perceived guys?

I do agree it is normally a bad, that is almost entirely dependent on play calls and of course you want passer rating to be better on the first read than otherwise.

But in this case after weeks of seeing, "Justin Fields is terrible once you shut down his first read while Mac Jones can spread out to everyone" it is kind of funny.

Too funny.

Pocket passers = < 150 (Brady, Brees, Roethlisberger, Rodgers, Ryan, Brady, Goff, Mayfield, Herbert, etc.)
Pocket passers with mobility = < 300 (Mahomes, Tannehill)
Athletic QB's = > 300 (Wilson, Allen, Jackson, Watson)

Still a massive minority for playoff teams.

Do you have a preference?

Oh wow Derek Carr's a good pocket passer too and doesn't move the needle. Eureka I just got it! Jones is another Derek Carr. Welp no thanks.
