Mac Jones is a Blackberry: "I'm not drafting a guy in the first round who is immobile. You cannot keep up in the NFL." — @ColinCowherd

Lol looks like he's gotta take a s**t

Yea, he runs like Eli Manning

That's a 2 time Super Bowl winner, I'll take it!

that's the fastest this guy can run!

Barrows said after the draft last yr that he knows for certain that SF was gonna take Clyde Edwards-Helaire at 31 if they stayed put.

Interesting if Harris falls to late 20s for a trade up from 42.
Good discussion here

Are we assuming that Fields isn't intelligent? Who said the only thing that makes him more talented is his ability to throw far?

Reaction time is important but it's not as cut and dry as people make it out to be. When you get to sit back and learn versus being thrown into the fire without a redshirt year. Think your reaction time will be better when you don't have to worry about getting hit on the regular? When your offense doesn't take longer to develop?

People really need to stop throwing the word "racist" around where it doesn't belong. It takes the meaning out of the word. Evaluating draft prospects is not racist.

Agreed. So ridiculous. No one cares about the color of these guys skin. Just whether or not they'll be a good qb at the next level.

If no one cares why would nobody mention the DUI for Jones? You know very well that if it was fields it would've been plastered on every front page of every sports website. And the NFL would have drafted him in the third or fourth round just like they did to ask Prescott. I don't want Jones Because I'm sick of basic. Jimmy is basic. Mac Jones is a little bit better than Jimmy when it comes to basics. There is nothing elite about him

I don't think in the NFL if he's bailing he'll make it three or four steps before having somebody in his face. My point is he doesn't seem to me like he can roll out or bail out and have to move 5 to 10 yards if need be

Mac's feel for pressure and movement in the pocket away from pressure and towards passing lanes via sliding and stepping up is fantastic. Nonetheless, nobody is perfect, and his inability to escape pressure he didn't feel or anticipate early enough is going to catch up to him in the NFL. Not to mention it's going to be extremely more challenging if he's a 49er with Mike McFloppy and the hole at right guard. This circles back to what Greg Cosell harped on: Do you put a philosophical premium on QB mobility?

Up to now, no, Shanahan hasn't. We'll see if that changes in 3 weeks.

I am not saying Mac to the 49ers is for sure. But if I was trying to connect the dots or look at what the signs are pointing to. The one and only dot/sign we have really gotten is that pro day to Alabama and that points to Mac.

No kyle said they didn't do much in terms of QB evaluation in 2017...Lynch said he went to Mahomes pro day as a smokescreen, and they both regret not taking him.

it's possible Jones wasn't one of the top 3 QBs that they were all about SO they went to his pro day to see if he had more to move up the board, after that pro day I wouldn't say that it move him up (if they weren't sold on him before).

"But if coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch had their eyes on Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, did they spend way too much for a player who mock drafts had lasting into the teens?

Former NFL executive Mike Tannenbaum, now ESPN's front office insider, said the 49ers did it the right way to avoid any heartbreak on draft day.

He said he believes the Carolina Panthers, who own the No. 8 overall pick, were a prime candidate to pounce on Jones if the 49ers left them an opening.

"You're trying to collect as much information as possible, and Carolina loves Mac Jones," Tannenbaum said on 49ers Talk.

"I don't think there's any doubt. I just watched the body language all week of (Panthers coach) Matt Ruhle. I was down there (at the Senior Bowl) broadcasting the game for ESPN. And it was clear that they were falling in love with him. So I think that had to be part of the psyche: 'If we get to five, Carolina might jump us.' So they went as high as they needed to."

Well this just isn't true lol.

Breer reported that Carolina and the Jets had been in talks about trading for Sam since mid February lol. Well before SF moved up...they could have move up if they loved Jones. They clearly like Sam more.

there's a reason Mike Tannenbaum is a failed GM and bad insider lol.

That's the thing, like Jimmy he can play well under structure...if our OL isn't pass-protection like a top 3 group or our WRs can't get open all game, he's f**ked plain and simple.
Personally, I just feel like Mac Jones is Kyles type of QB. Kyle doesn't care about murray/wilson type of mobility. He wants a QB that will run his offense the way he wants it run. Like Cosel said in his interview, kyle is extremely confident in his offense. He just needs a guy to execute it.

Kyle loves kirk cousins and matty ice. Doesn't Mac Jones fit right in with those 2 guys?

Honestly after hearing that they were in fact massive players for Watson and now Breer says they were in on Sam a couple months ago, I'd say he doesn't have and issue with a mobile QB. That athletic QB simply needs to be able to play within the pocket as well. The great thing is Fields and Lance are pocket QBs first and athletic studs only when they need to be.

"And I look on TV the next day. No. 3 pick. I'm like what the … ? They ain't picking no damn running back at No. 3."

Pretty interesting. Would make you think that we may be trading Jimmy G for some picks this year. Harris would be an absolute STUD under Shanahan in this offense. Mostert/Harris is pure lightning/thunder. One can dream...

If we can get some great value for Jimmy G, s*** you want lightning and thunder, give me Harris and Etienne

Lombardi brought up the situation saying that they might be in fact moving back up in the draft because they don't have enough roster spots.

Well put it this way, if Kyle had the choice between Russell Wilson and Kirk Cousins, for the same price, which would he choose? Which would you choose?

It's not just a question of system fit, it's one of value.
