Mac Jones-QB-Jaguars

That athletic QB simply needs to be able to play within the pocket as well. The great thing is Fields and Lance are pocket QBs first and athletic studs only when they need to be.

I HOPE TO GOD YOUR RIGHT.

I just feel like shanny is going to go full on stubborn mode, ignore the issues we have had with protecting jimmy g, and draft the statuesque Mac Jones.

Personally, I just feel like Mac Jones is Kyles type of QB. Kyle doesn't care about murray/wilson type of mobility. He wants a QB that will run his offense the way he wants it run. Like Cosel said in his interview, kyle is extremely confident in his offense. He just needs a guy to execute it.

Kyle loves kirk cousins and matty ice. Doesn't Mac Jones fit right in with those 2 guys?

He should care because those are the QBs that keep beating him lol.

also the Kirk crap has been beaten to death...he coached him for 3 games. Kyle had said he's NOT his prototype, just a good starting QB.

Listen...

I really don't think that's the case, he could get a system QB for much much less...including Ryan/Kirk.

Well put it this way, if Kyle had the choice between Russell Wilson and Kirk Cousins, for the same price, which would he choose? Which would you choose?

It's not just a question of system fit, it's one of value.

And in that same draft Kyle actually had a higher grade on Wilson, in fact he was gonna be the pick over Kirk but he got drafted earlier then they though he would.

Then again, with mac, he gets his system QB on a rookie contract, which would allow him to pay all his other guys.

I would hope that kyle of all people would want to go with what could potentially be one of those mobile type QB's that have been giving him fits since he signed with the niners.

The plan is to take a rookie to capitalize on having more talent elsewhere. The team does it's homework on all options. Which is why people shouldn't be freaking out about us looking to Mac.

The plan should be to take the most talented QB in general, especially if your giving up yrs off high picks that could have went to young talent.

I agree they're doing there homework and haven't talked about a damn thing

If all you're looking for is a "system QB" you don't have to burn 3 yrs of 1st rd picks in the process. Those are players you can find in FA or the draft at a much less of a cost.

I get the rookie QB contract stuff, they ALSO have to make up for the lost high end talent (on rookie contracts) that they used to get the QB.

All these top 5 QBs can play inside the pocket, the other 4 just give you more than Jones after that.

"But if coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch had their eyes on Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, did they spend way too much for a player who mock drafts had lasting into the teens?

Former NFL executive Mike Tannenbaum, now ESPN's front office insider, said the 49ers did it the right way to avoid any heartbreak on draft day.

He said he believes the Carolina Panthers, who own the No. 8 overall pick, were a prime candidate to pounce on Jones if the 49ers left them an opening.

"You're trying to collect as much information as possible, and Carolina loves Mac Jones," Tannenbaum said on 49ers Talk.

"I don't think there's any doubt. I just watched the body language all week of (Panthers coach) Matt Ruhle. I was down there (at the Senior Bowl) broadcasting the game for ESPN. And it was clear that they were falling in love with him. So I think that had to be part of the psyche: 'If we get to five, Carolina might jump us.' So they went as high as they needed to."

Que the NY85 "Mike Tannenbaum is an idiot. He knows nothing" followed by a Field's-is-awesome JT O'Sullivan video clip.

good video, sorry if already posted

Mac's feel for pressure and movement in the pocket away from pressure and towards passing lanes via sliding and stepping up is fantastic. Nonetheless, nobody is perfect, and his inability to escape pressure he didn't feel or anticipate early enough is going to catch up to him in the NFL. Not to mention it's going to be extremely more challenging if he's a 49er with Mike McFloppy and the hole at right guard. This circles back to what Greg Cosell harped on: Do you put a philosophical premium on QB mobility?

Up to now, no, Shanahan hasn't. We'll see if that changes in 3 weeks.

Exactly!

Well this just isn't true lol.

Breer reported that Carolina and the Jets had been in talks about trading for Sam since mid February lol. Well before SF moved up...they could have move up if they loved Jones. They clearly like Sam more.

there's a reason Mike Tannenbaum is a failed GM and bad insider lol.

Too late.

Or I'll just post legit reporting

they were NEVER Interested in Jones like dip s**ts like MT were saying. CAR had been trying to get Sam since mid-Feb wayyyy before SF made a move.

Yeah I'm sure JTO is an idiot and understands nothing about the QB position....but pleased keep posting Grant Cohn comments about black QBs being the same

NC doesn't like legit reporting and being wrong 😂

it's cool keep posting grant comps that's some real nuanced stuff....

This is why you can't dismiss Mac. We ALL know Kyle isn't the greatest personnel guy and has massive blind spots for pass protection (despite wanting a pocket passer at the same time), overdrafting specific skill sets, positions or players, ego-belief HE can compensate for poor personnel or poor skill sets, etc.

Kyle has his blind spots. No doubt. It's up to Lynch and Peters to help him get out of that rut.

With QB, I don't think ANY of Mac, Fields nor Lance is worth trading up for BUT if you want any of those guys, that's the cost of #3 (the player is not a factor). If you walk out of this without your QB, all hell would break loose.

i disagree with this

we have a SB caliber roster this gives us a huge window with a rookie deal at the most expensive position

Im honestly fine with any of these 3 qbs
