Yep. Funny how narrative went from "awesome, we are getting Fields" to "f**k, are we willing wasting this draft capital on this clown?"

49ers fans are shook, although I'm pretty sure it's just Command and NY going back and forth. I checked out 170 pages ago.

lol it's me vs everyone

I'm not buying it until I hear the name being called....if so it's less interest in the team for me, which like I said is probably a good thing

I'm riding with you on this one. There are others too.

One thing is for sure. If we draft Mac Jones, him, Kyle, and Lynch will be in a career long uphill battle that will be scrutinized under a magnifying glass.

Will not be fun for any of the three. I don't think Kyle/Lynch go that route.

Is it possible they're leaking Jones as the pick as a non-leak? Because it's really one of the other two. Wow I just blew my own mind.

It could be misinformation... but definitely seems like something is leaking out of the organization. No reason anymore for smoke screens after the Jets are now set to draft a qb at two. No one is leap frogging us. #1 and #2 are off the market. #4 looks to be on the block.
Nothing is leaking out. Nothing ever leaks out. This isn't Trent baalke in charge anymore. The niners haven't even been to fields second pro day which they're expected to do. Mac Jones at number 3 is just speculation

I diagree. I'm not certain but this sure feels like leaks at this point. You could be right and everyone could be speculating the same thing. But so many big names saying Mac is gonna be the pick.

They speculate their opinion. Then how come nobody knew we were trading up to 3? How come nobody knew we were trading Buckner? How come nobody knew we were trading for jimmy g? But all of a sudden the talking heads in the media know everything? Give me a break. I don't understand this fetish for believing people in the media no matter how credible or big they are instead of our coach and gm who have never leaked anything. Every big move has been done in secrecy. Do you really think shanahan and lynch are gonna leak out who they're picking in their biggest draft pick in 49er history?

Because there was a reason to keep those moves quiet whereas there's not much of a reason now? Everyone knows the first two picks. Maybe they know number three as well. There's not a ton of motivation to keep it quiet at this point. #1 and #2 are off the market and the picks are surely decided by now. Same with #3 I'm sure. I dunno, I guess we'll see. You're point is nothing came out before those previous moves but there is info being floated out there now. I forget who had us taking McGlinchey right before the draft but I remember something leaked out there I believe. Leaks happen. There's a financial motive for front office personnel to leak info... they get paid by reporters for it. Maybe the Niners higher ups are throwing their guys a bone on this one? It might actually benefit the Niners to have this one leak out where it won't hurt them. That way they can throw some smoke screens with disinformation in the future. This is chess not checkers is all I'm saying. Expecting the past to continually repeat itself isn't gonna cut it when watching high level big money stuff go down in real time.

If we indeed pick Mac Jones which is 50/50 like fields and lance then how would that necessarily be a bad thing? We improved our o line, have one of the best offensive minds in the game, good receivers, one of the best right ends in football, a very good running game. Any quarterback can flourish in this system. So I'm just curious why you would be "less interested" in the team if we pick Mac Jones

Because he's so anti Mac that he's dug himself a hole and won't be able to root for the guy. I know from experience, I did it myself with Alex Smith back in the day. Hated him and then couldn't root for him when he was in there. Just wanted anyone else in. That's the danger of these chat forums. You get so pigeon holed in a take on a player you would rather root for him to fail at the team's expense so that you're not wrong... when literally no one cares what your uneducated, monday morning qb opinion is lol. Learn from my mistakes people. It's ok to have favorites but don't hate on a guy too much before he ever plays a game. Shanahan is a pretty bright dude that makes millions of dollars to run a team. So far so good I think most of us would agree. Let's see who he picks and what he can do with him. Can you imagine if he had Matt Ryan for like the first ten years of his career? That could very well be the situation we're building up to here in this draft.

I don't think it's the fact of getting pigeonholed into your opinion. I think some more to the fact that it's absolutely insane to give up three first round picks for Mac freaking Jones. When before this trade was made, most saw him as the fifth quarterback and picked anywhere between 10 or not even a first round pick. It seems to be the only reason the pundits give when explaining why they have Jones going at three. It's not because of his talent, it's because he fits what Kyle has coached before.

You don't know that though. Like I said if he's a young Matt Ryan it's an amazing move. It's fine to have an opinion but all I'm saying is the danger is in having too strong an opinion to where you actually root against the guy because you wanna be right so bad. Mac can come in and throw 35tds in 2022 and lead us to a super bowl. It's really not that far out of the realm. Carson Wentz was having a mvp year in year 2 and the Eagles won it all. Same with Mahomes. And no one was predicting that from either of those guys. The league will always surprise you. Keep an open mind is my word of advice to young niners fans. Shanahan is a pretty exciting young coach and this is his all in move. Gonna be fun to watch for me whether it's Mac Jones or Trey Lance or Justin Fields. I'll be equally excited for any of the above.

The got damn voice of reason!

People can talk about Mac's team talent. Regardless, He made quick decisions, Got the ball out of his hand quickly, Threw to the open players, and threw accurate footballs. I do not get what is not to like about him other than he is not a running QB and he played with great players. Mac was always going to be one of the top players taken in this draft. People are just getting caught up with where NFL teams see him. I have been trying to tell people. Mac Jones put together really special tape this season. The best tape I have seen for a pure pocket passer in a long time.

There was a time when 99% of scouts were looking for this as their #1 traits.

Yup. I'm in an emotional Rollercoaster right now. While my heart wants the excitement that fields and Lance provides there is something about Mac that can surprise many of us. While i will be one of many that will be disappointed if we get Mac initially, if he ends up being a top tier QB in the mold of Ryan( who is really good idk why he is getting bogged down as a disappointed ceiling, he has just been stuck with a bad falcons organization) then this will be worth it. At the end of the day, if he gets us a ring he can have as many cookies as he wants.

I posted this video in the pick #3 thread. I'll post it here too. I'm no Mac Jones hater, I'll be excited if he's the pick. Is he gonna be the pick though is what I'm entertaining myself with leading up to the draft? A pretty ugly redzone pic call back here. Some good quick reads too. A mixed bag. JTO is awesome with his breakdowns though. https://youtu.be/miLOBJmT0zQ

This is absolutely the right mindset, esp. if you're hoping for a different QB.

Give Kyle and the kid a chance to build something together...while we watch Jimmy Garoppolo win a Superbowl this year, of course.
I DON'T BUY IT

That logic doesn't make any sense. Their is no motive ever to leak especially during draft time. Shanahan and lynch have never done this especially 3 weeks before the draft. This is their biggest draft pick in their regime. You really think they're gonna give away who they're picking.

Of course I'll root for Mac to succeed. Anger about the pick will quickly shift to supporting him once it's over-with.
I just can't fathom moving all this draft capital for another QB with limitations.
