Given his skill set that would lead me to believe Shannahan is absolutely blown away and infatuated with his processing and to a lessor extent accuracy. Processing is what made Brady, manning, and brees hall of famers. If Mac is the pick at #3 imo Shannahan thinks there's a chance he's one of those guys.
That's the best case scenario with Jones. Master game processor always one step ahead. It's a proven winning trait. Best case scenario with Fields is that Kyle Shanahan evolves his play calling philosophy to build in more room for Fields to exhibit his phenomenal physical attributes, but still keeping it under control. I'm thinking grown man version of Russell Wilson. Trey Lance would not be my choice because he is a man playing amongst boys and it's too hard to get a read on how it might translate in the NFL. I've talked myself into either Jones or Fields, but I question whether the idea of making this trade was even a good idea in the first place. I mean, how often does the best QB end up being the one that wasn't talked about and analyzed and picked at the top of the board?

And I never will.
I've already said several times that I'm fine with any of these quarterbacks. They all have various strengths and drawbacks. If the 49ers are lucky, the one they draft turns out to be a Top 10/Top 15 QB and really that's all Shanahan needs to be able to make his offense work at a high level. Someone that won't miss some of the easy throws that Garoppolo left out on the field, someone that won't turn the football over often, someone that can stay healthy and available and if you're talking about a QB like Fields, someone that can extend plays with their legs and gash defenses on the ground when they're napping, that wouldn't hurt either.
I think Shanahan can scheme for any of these QB's and he's still going to be using the same approach of acquiring more playmakers that can turn an 8 yard pass into a housecall. YAC will continue to be the name of the game, regardless of the quarterback, along with a strong run game.
There's still a part of me that wishes that they had waited on trading up, maybe worked out a deal to move up for Pitts down the road and then gone with a QB like Mond that you can sit for a year or two and let him work on some of his issues. I really do believe that Mond is capable of tremendous success in the NFL with the right coach and in the right offense and the thought of adding Pitts to Kittle, Deebo and Aiyuk still sounds sexy as hell but that moment has passed so one of these three QB's it is.
If I had to bet money, I'd probably bet on Fields since I think he checks most of the boxes and his issues can be improved upon/worked around but I also won't be shocked at all if Goodell announces Trey Lance or Mac Jones either.

Are we not discussing the comps to Derek Carr and Teddy Bridgewater? Just gonna gloss that over. 3 firsts for Teddy Bridgewater. Serenity now. Serenity now.
Lol I almost comped him to Teddy. Figured that would get some backlash though.

The moment the pick is made, that IS spending 3 1st on him. You forgot to mention the 2021 12th pick given up in your equation

Right. Losing the opportunity to pick 3 other first round prospects.
