Historically speaking the odds are that at least 2 of the Top 5 will be major disappointments/busts and one is likely to be average to below average.

This is exactly what I said my concern was after they jumped to #3, as you mentioned the team environment has a lot to do with it and we have the best of the top 5. When it comes to this I always think of Alex Smith and Rodgers. I think if we had gotten Rodgers and Alex ended up in GB, the narrative would be reversed because our environment sucked while GB was good. Rodgers got to sit and learn while Alex was set up for failure. In this case, as good as Lawrence is projected to be, he might be the bust. Who are the Jags surrounding him with to help him out?, and as good as Meyer was in college we all know the NFL is different. How is he going to react when failure hits him in the face, this is something he never experienced in his college coaching career.
If the Niners take Jones and he ends up being a pro bowl QB I still wouldn't be a fan of the trade. I haven't heard much buzz from any other team that wants him bad enough to move up except maybe NE moving up to 4. Trading one future 1st rounder would have been okay, but 2 plus a 3rd rounder is too much.

Question: What happened when one thing wasn't perfect for Patrick Mahomes in the Superbowl last year, unlike the year before when it was.

Same fans: "Yeah but he tried really hard. It wasn't his fault they lost."

One thing? HA you mean like basically the whole offensive line? It wasn't missing one LT or one RT or missing one guard...

LT Mike Remmers Replaced Schwartz

LG Nick Allegretti Drafted in 7th round in 2019

C Austin Reiter Drafted in 7th round in 2015

RG Stefen Wisniewski Waived by Steelers in November

RT Andrew Wylie RG this season (UDFA in 2017)

This was a week before the SB..

On Monday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid pointed out something that was very interesting in that regard. According to ESPN's Dianna Russini, at practice, the Chiefs' entire offensive line will play every single position on the line. So no one is set in one spot and everyone is somewhat prepared to play in any position anytime it is needed.

Bwahahaha.

Literally, the same issue for Garoppolo. Pass protection.

The is real!
Not my quarterback!!! 😤

Like the 2018 NFL draft. I bet the Jets wish they went with the vastly more talented QB in Josh Allen at pick 3.

Ahh no it wasn't SF was missing one starter in the SB. They had 3 1st rd talents one that line. It's wasn't a one week thrown together OL of guys playing different position across the line

Come on man. If he turns into a pro bowl QB, we'll all be thrilled and this thread will be funny to look back on :)
I genuinely do think Mac Jones can be a top 10 qb year in and out in the NFL. He excels in all the best areas that predict NFL success and would be paired with Kyle. BUT....

1) I just can't wrap my head around the value vs upside. I doubt any team out there that was a threat would be confident enough they could make him great to trade 3 firsts.

2) I do think he's elite at evading pressure (both pocket movement and quick release / throwing with anticipation) which is another way to avoid pressure and in many ways better than the other 5 in this regard. However, if you watch enough of his tape you'll see just how much that style of play leaves him vulnerable to absolutely massive hits. If durability is important I feel you should also target qb's mobile enough to avoid those hits, not just qb's that are willing to step up into them and sacrifice himself for the team. That's courageous AF but he won't last 17 game seasons doing that.

Lol Josh Allen to NYJ would have ended disastrously. Even worse than Darnold IMO

True putting an incredibly talented player on a solid roster does help that players talents shine.

I actually think Jones is the most likely QB to be a Pro Bowler if drafted on this tam. He's just also the least likely to be a top 5 NFL QB.

These days being a Pro Bowler just means putting up good stats on a playoff team and you can project (barring injury) beyond any reasonable doubt that he can run an offense like Kyle's better than Jimmy / Kirk based on his tape and traits. He won't be the guy to take teams to the playoffs on his back which IMO is what you trade 3 firsts for that type of talent.

The pick is going to be Fields. The 49ers haven't leaked anything to nobody. I think all these analysts are reaching.

Yup people forget failure is on the entire environment, not just the player. Jones would technically have better odds to succeed because we have a very good roster and coach in comparison to the other teams in the top 10.
