2nd or 3rd round pick.

#3 overall pick

Undrafted FA.

I gave him the same draft grade as Solomon Thomas. A 2nd or early 3rd at best
As I have watch the last 30 years of football. I have learned one thing. Listen to all the majority of people talking and saying this is the direction, then go the opposite direction. Why you ask, they are experts at picking the wrong things. No I didn't save all the post or have every thing documented but I do remember. The majority said this or that, fail. We passed on so many people for the popular choice. Fail. The moment the coaches listen to outside advice they betray themselves. Social media is great right? Yeah what has it ever made better? Only people's butts on the line is coach, GM and owner. Vote people so you can say your right. Vote so you can say coach was wrong. Vote on something that doesn't cost you anything and if you are really crafty you can spin it all to your right either way. Me... I'll support the team and coaches and hope they hit pay dirt. We all win that way. But don't for a minute act like you all haven't made bad choices or judged something wrong. We have had some coaches and management make bad choices but it always destroys them. No need to act like you know better or are smarter. At best it's all a 50/50 best guess crap shoot. Let's hope the coach wins that coin toss.

Your being too generous - Solomon is a 5th/6th at best.

Can we stop posting this video? Its now the 4th time someone tried to use it to show Mac Jones is a scrambler. I mean one "highlight" was a ball getting batted and he catches it and loses 2 yards.

I wasn't aware it had been posted before, but I am sure I will post it again when someone tries to say Mac is a statue. Because it clearly shows he can move with the football. I would agree that some of the clips in that video shouldn't even be there. If I had made the video I would have cut out a few clips in there as they were really NOT that impressive. Maybe the guy was trying to make the video longer, I don't know why he added some of the clips. Jones will never be a running QB but there are some good clips in that video that show he has the athletism to scramble and the ability to throw well on the move.

It doesn't really prove much. I'll show you a highlight reel of Phillip Rivers running the ball that looks a lot like that and he's as much of a statue as anyone in the NFL. I once saw his running style described as being like a baby giraffe.

You have got to be high off your ass if you think that silly little Philip Rivers video looks remotely like anything in the Mac Jones video. That is some rich s**t right there.

One way to use a QB's athleticism is the Roman Offense with Lamar Jackson. But the guys that are winning super bowls are the guys that stay in the pocket.

Thats the beauty of fields: he is a pocket passer who also has elite athleticism. Why would you settle for Mac??

yeah can you imagine what our offense would look like if Jones was back there instead of Fields or Lance, and Mcglinchy has some bad games again?

Let me say again. I don't think Mac will ever be a running QB. One of the things I hear most of MaC. Is that he is just going to play from within the pocket and will need an amazing offensive line to be successful. The video I posted shows he can move the pocket. Throw both moving to his right and left. Even enough mobility to evade free rushers. use his legs to buy extra time. And yes also every once in a blue moon take off and pick up a few positive yards instead of potentially taking a sack.

Mac isn't Marino but he isn't even on Jimmy G's level of athleticism (pre ACL)

You're right. He's a better athlete than Jimmy, according to the drills.. Faster 40 yard dash (4.72/4.68 vs. 4.97), better vertical leap (32" vs. 30.5"), same 3-cone (7.04).

Seriously though, I'm not suggesting that he's a "better" athlete, but can we stop with this hyperbole not grounded in reality that Mac Jones is some potato with legs?

I think Mac will struggle if the OL can't protect him. At least Fields can make a play with his legs if there's penetration.

I don't think it would be as bad as you think, not if Mac is able to find the hot read / open receiver and get rid of the ball quickly.

I'll give him the vertical, but this 40 time needs to stop being mentioned, it was hand timed and I've heard people report everything from 4.68 to 4.86.

He's not a statue by any means, and he's functionally athletic (unlike Rivers that was posted above) but let's not start trying to make it seem like a positive trait, when only Kyle Trask is slower.

Except that the number suggest he isn't especially good when having to come off his first read.

Jones strength was his pre-snap reads. However, when that read wasn't there things didn't always turn out as well.

I suggest watching the JTO QB school break downs of Mac Jones. Lots of cut-ups in there of Mac going through progressions post-snap and hitting his 4th or 5th read.

You should watch them I think.

This video is full of him not getting past his first read, missing throws, passing up on the best choice, inaccurate throws, late throws, etc.

He's not very good.
Mac Jones will be a hall of fame QB and will win superbowls with the 49ers
