I really like Mac too...I would love for him to be a 49er....but that is ALOT of draft Capital....and your not even getting the top QB in the draft.

You could make an argument that Fields, Lance and Zach are flawed too..... they are. No one here is perfect. You cant teach what some of the other QBs have. I dont know that you can Teach what Jones has....but we have all seen the Gannons, and Smiths of the world...it sure seems like you can improve decision making.

That is the crux of the issue. No one is gonna convince me that there won't be another Mac Jones level QB in 2022 or 2023 draft.

Hell I wouldn't have given all that up for Fields or Lance either but at least with them I get the skillsets they have and why they would be valued.

Absolutely this, for me Mac is a good QB prospect, you don't spend the #3 overall pick on good, let alone trading what we did.

The thing is, WE thing hes good. Kyle might think hes SPECIAL as he stays up at night aggressively beating off to Kirk Cousins' pictures.

I've heard a rumor that Kyle has at least 3 different Kirk Cousin Fatheads on his bedroom wall, so I don't doubt it.

Completely accurate statement right there. We'd actually have a better chance of success if we drafted Mills, Mond, and Newman in rounds three, four, and five.

Whenever Kyle gets hammered, he drunk texts Cousins at 2am "u up?".

Because some people can't understand how he could be considered over others. While trying to explain why they don't like him.

While others agree it was a hefty price tag for him but try to play devils advocate as to why he's worthy of the #3 pick even if he is not their choice.

Then you have the crowd that was hiding under a rock and not really sure what to think of any of these QBs but read these threads on each of these QBs and think we are about to draft a dummy with a cheat code or a fat white statue that devours girl scout cookies behind the great wall of China While waiting for Jesus to get downfield.

Fair enough, I'm curious to know which camp you're in?

The last bit is part of the reason I'm willing to go back over his game tape looking for specifics. Got time whilst up with my daughter anyway!

2nd half of the LSU game, and a pressure! I mean it was clearly offsides, and they were setting up a screen, but Mac rolled out well, eyes downfield, but incomplete.

And that's it, there were a couple of times where the coverage held up and he held the ball a while and eventually the DL got near, I don't count those, but even if you did, he was incomplete on both of them.

Will do Kentucky next as Dshearn posted it.

Of course that's true. We've already seen Shanahan pass on having Mahomes and Watson on a rookie contract in the hopes of paying Kirk $30 million a year. Deep down, every 49ers fan fears that Shanahan is nothing but a good offensive coordinator that's terrible at basically everything else, especially player evaluation. This is his chance to definitively prove that right or wrong.

Yup that absolutely is true cause I think Shanahan is the only coach in the NFL that would do it
I see a lot of "Mac Jones isn't worth using 3 1st round picks to get him"...I agree with that statement.

But are Fields or Lance worth using 3 1st round picks to get? Any of these 3 seem risky considering what the Niners gave up.

I'm actually surprised Kyle wanted to give up this much without getting the chance to draft Lawrence or Wilson. He obviously see's something that I don't in these other 3 guys...and I'm very excited to find out who he thinks is so good that he's willing to push his chips in. I think this whole situation is fascinating.

Well look at the numbers no one has a 100+ or whatever that picture is saying...it's clearly a different stat or algorithm, that's all I'm saying.

he's got great touch on his passes, he doesn't have the velocity you want from a QB you're spending 3 1sts on. There's a massive difference between him and the other 4 there.

like I said what he's good at are learnable traits, he like a lot of Bama players are maxed out coming into the league. This isn't about who's better day 1 at "quarterbacking" but who's better 3-4 yrs from now. This pick is a long-term investment and he simply isn't there compared to the rest as far as ceiling goes. That s**t matters, even more in today's game.

Yes, He is a different type of QB than the other 4, but IMO that doesn't make him less good or less worthy of the pick because of it.

I think it is a misconception that he is somehow maxed out. Just because he is more polished and more NFL-ready in a lot of areas does not mean He cannot get better than he currently is. Not just mentally but physically. Just because he might not be quite the same level as a pure athlete doesn't mean he has less of a ceiling than the other QBs. Mac will never run a 4.4 like Fields. But these "learnable traits" as you call them and all the small things Mac knows how to do that Make for good QB play. It is not just a given that people will be able to learn and execute these things. It might be possible for me to learn advanced mathematics.... that does not mean I will ever learn it or ever be good at it.

Fields is a generational talent... So yes, he would be worth it.
