Most definitely. Which is why NONE of the 3 are "worth it."

But rare skillsets matter more in terms of value so if you are going to make that move you gotta do it for the rare skillset.

Like what?

Like the one I described that you haven't responded to

Big arm and fast 40?

This last month has been exhausting. I'm sure Command enjoyed posting in this thread messing with certain posters.

I sure hope that all the time that has been spent on which QB to choose, hasn't detracted from the time spent on our other 8 picks (or is it 9). That is a big downside i have wondered about since the first day of trade up. Instead of posting it as a thread, and mainly because of Mac, i just hope they have put in the time and effort on our remaining picks, esp thru rds 3 , 4 and 5. Probably got a CB in rd 2, less likely an OL, but i hope they haven't given the remainder of the draft short shrift.

Veey good point.

I just like to bring some balance and levity to the discussion.

I see a lot of "Mac Jones isn't worth using 3 1st round picks to get him"...I agree with that statement.

But are Fields or Lance worth using 3 1st round picks to get? Any of these 3 seem risky considering what the Niners gave up.

I'm actually surprised Kyle wanted to give up this much without getting the chance to draft Lawrence or Wilson. He obviously see's something that I don't in these other 3 guys...and I'm very excited to find out who he thinks is so good that he's willing to push his chips in. I think this whole situation is fascinating.

LOL. Exactly. None of them are "worth it" at 3 especially when you consider the odds of the 3rd QB even being a serviceable QB in the NFL.

But that's the price you pay to sleep secure at night for 3.

As a prospect Justin Fields is absolutely worth it, do productive 5 star recruit QB's, with a .50 cal sniper rifle for an arm, who run a 4.4 just come around every year?

Is he perfect? No, but as prospects go, he has everything a coach could want to work with.

Because the physical traits you listed aren't what makes up a great NFL QB. He's a really good prospect but he also has big holes and question marks in his overall game. In fact he's got as many holes as you'd expect from the 3rd QB...that goes for Mac and esp. Lance too.

Here's Simms breaking down all 3 but more importantly, explaining his POV per what he knows about Kyle and what he looks for in a QB.

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chris-simms-unbuttoned/id1454809704

F*CK Simms, and you can't tell me that accuracy and arm strength aren't traits to be valued, and being that fast clearly affects defenses.

The question marks matter for evaluators, but the right coaching, situation and work ethic can overcome all of them. That's what makes him an elite prospect.

Same with Lance except the level of competition, lack of sample size and inconsistent accuracy shown on film knocks him to an unknown quantity.

You do with your dick as you will. I won't judge.

Here's our own JD mirroring exactly what Simms said.

Fields: live arm, elite athlete, can make something out of nothing, fearless thrower, heavy arm thrower which means he generates lots of power from just his arm, when he knows where he wants to go with the ball, he's very accurate.

Negatives: his footwork is really bad, it will take quite some time before he's able to operate in a timing based WCO like Shanahan wants, as far as footwork is concerned, accuracy under pressure can be very spotty/bad, doesn't have great pocket feel - will often not react to pressure until it's right there(reminds me of Kaepernick in this regard), needs work on throwing into zones with anticipation.

He's very talented but pretty raw. I think the deshaun Watson comparisons are unfair to him. He's fields, not Watson. Watson had 2 very successful years as a starter under his belt. He'll need 1, maybe 2 years to really develop IMO.

Fair enough, I'm curious to know which camp you're in?

The last bit is part of the reason I'm willing to go back over his game tape looking for specifics. Got time whilst up with my daughter anyway!

1A: Mac Jones, to me fits so perfectly we wouldn't have to change a thing. Similar type to Ryan (league MVP), Matt Schaub (lead league in passing the one full year under Kyle), Nick Mullens ( only Patrick Mahomes has more passing yards thru 1st 18 starts) His offense works with the Mac Jones type.

And yes I know the wolves are coming for the mention of Schaub and Mullens. But like the Brady comps I'm only talking types. Schaub and Mullens issues were turnovers. A supposed strength of Mac

1B: zach Wilson I think would allow us to run Kyle's offense but don't think it would be ran as seamlessly as with Jones. He has some hero ball in him. Escapes the pocket too early for my liking without the need looking for the homerun. I also think his mobility will translate the same as Manziel and Mayfield which isn't as positive as some may think.

1C: Justin Fields, he was a very distant 3rd this time a month ago. But he's more accurate and better passer than I gave him credit for. He still doesn't see the field or pass rush as well as I would like. Because of that I feel Shanny would have to change his offense for Fields.

A month ago, I wouldn't even think of having any of that. But after diving into RGIII and Kyle I feel it could possibly work with Fields. IMO Fields is a better passer/thrower than RGIII so I don't think he would have to go full zone read like he did for RGIII.

The fact that I don't know what it would look like puts him 3rd and last on my list.

I literally would be fine with any of the 3 I mentioned. I want no part of Lance, Trask or Mond. Mills could be intriguing in the 4th or later.

That is the camp I'm in. Those are my reasons and not interested in defending my reasons at this point.

So if we don't have to change a thing, just keep Jimmy and hope he stays healthy. Getting Fields, doesn't mean the entire offense changes for the worse or at all . Fields can do things Jones couldn't dream of athletically, AND can do everything Jones already does. You do realize most of Mullens yardage and TDs came in garbage time when the game was out of reach. He never plays good until he's down 17 and game in hand for the defense. Which explains his record. Lol.

Wilson or Fields. Period.

Dickinson — known as "Coach D" by Jones — first met Jones as a young quarterback attending a DeBartolo Sports Camp in Jacksonville, Florida. Then 11, Jones impressed former Oklahoma State quarterback Daxx Garman enough that Garman called over Dickinson.

Yeah. If we don't want to change anything just keep Jimmy and use #3 on Pitts.

It doesn't matter, the salary cap is going to explode. If the QB we draft is good he's gonna need 30 million a year before long too....if he sucks then that's even worse. The cap isn't going to keep us from paying Bosa, Warner, and a QB.
