Mac Jones-QB-Jaguars

It's my belief that no one actually knows with any real certainty who "the guy" actually is, not even Kyle. I mean, we can have our opinions but it's all guesswork and everyone and their dog has 20/20 hindsight. As evidenced by how many QB's have been passed over by many only to turn out to be great, missing on them, especially QB's, isn't something peculiar to any franchise in the league. They all look back and say if, but, maybe, coulda, shoulda, woulda.

Any of these 5 QB's could be "the guy" for the club that ultimately takes them and all of them might be tragic busts.

Me, I think Kyle will take Mac but I don't really mind who he chooses. It's his job to make that call and there's no point me getting all bent out of shape over something I have zero control over. All I can reasonably do for now is hope that whoever is on that card does indeed end up being "the guy".

Well said.

If we were drafting a QB for the next year or two, Then Yes maybe Mac Should be the pick but this is about getting your franchise QB for the next decade. Is Fields or Lance as good as Mac right now at proccessing and accuracy? Probally not but they could be in the future and if that happens you got yourselves a top 3 QB based on all their other Physical tools. The stuff Mac Jones can't do he will never be able to. I don't think anybody is denying can't be a good QB but when you are trading two future 1st RD picks and a 3rd you are looking for a guy who can be the best of the best. That should be the players ceiling and potential. Even the Jones supporters such as Simms don't even mention him being among the best if he reaches his potential. They just say he could be a really good QB. But what is really good? Cousins is a good QB but he isn't elite. There is reason Cousins hasn't been able to take the Vikings to the next level despite being decent and being part of many decent Vikings teams. He just doesn't have that extra level that is needed.

Pocket passers tend to have a longer development time than mobile ones though. You just aren't going to walk into the league as the smartest QB out there but 4.4 speed and cannon for an arm that's there. Mahomes was running the league in 2 seasons with 1 on the bench. And you hear him mention he's just now understanding how to break down film. The more skills you have the harder it is for the d to keep up.

Tom won SB's with Bill but it was like year 7 before he was a MVP candidate. Brees struggled early on too to the point where San Diego prematurely gave up on him.

The only thing Mac offers that is better is he probably can run Shanny's play to design better. If that's what Shanny values it is what it is but this selection here will likely decide his fate. Hopefully we choose what his system can do with the prototype of a QB that's setting the league on fire not just his system guy.

Middlekauf hit the nail on the head IMO. It's okay to pick Mac but I hope someone asks the question why they felt to give up all that capital to draft a guy with limited physical attributes.

Or he just thought Tua's ability to extend plays gave him an advantage early on. Mac can be a fast processor but as a freshman when Tua won the national title how ahead can you be?

kyle passed on arguably 4 of the top 6/7 QBs In the league for system fit limited QBs...sounds like he's gonna do it again.

Dude it's the truth...there's no reason to pretend like it's not.

LOL

Lol you don't even know what we were talking about

Yeah, but that extra level doesn't need to be a cannon arm and the ability to run around like a march hare. Maybe Jones already has the extra level and it resides between his ears rather than in his limbs.

Think Drew Brees, Peyton manning, Tom Brady. What about those three guys led to them collectively dominating the league for the better part of the last two decades? None of em can run and none have cannons for an arm.

I don't mind Mac but in a week the conversation has gone from "good processor" to "best processor in the draft" to "best processor scouts have ever talked to" to " only 21 but possibly an MVP or NFL champion-level processor." Either the praise/projecting has gotten ahead of itself or this dude should actually be working for NASA.

.

Exactly. People pumping this dude up to next level. Almost like he never made a bad read in his life...

He has. They need to ease up with that narrative. This dude getting a DUI, eating cookies by the plate and he's some football savant with perfect accuracy who couldn't start until injury got Tua? Surely a HC like Saban would've seen the next Tom Brady in his lockerroom.
Haha they had 12 last night up to 150 in a couple hrs

That may be the worst take ever. You do know that both Joe burrow and Justin Fields both transferred out of their respective college because they couldn't win the starting job right?

Let the real fans cheer for their team. The rest will bandwagon jump when we start winning.

Lol Montana didn't look the part, but he was sneaky athletic for sure. They talk about Mahomes like that today legs wise. You don't think he's that fast then all of a sudden he's gone etc.
Jones would be surprising nobody cause he is never leaving the pocket, dead or alive lol.
