If it was that cut and dried the conversation wouldn't be taking place.
He's got talent, he's not some garbage QB. He will win games with Kyle similar to how Jimmy has.
his upside is not that or a top 5 QB though. There's a reason why guys with elite talent go high in just about every sport. Coaches think they can take all that upside and make a franchise high end player. Not sure why Kyle can't think he can't do that?
If the reports are true, and I still have some doubt, it's hubris. It's Kyle saying to the rest of the league, "I'm smarter. My system is better. I can win with less talented players." He may be right, but it's an awfully big gamble and if it doesn't work out, with the capital used, it will sink our franchise for a decade.
Well I think the principle would be *the sum greater than the parts?* I mean Kyle does wonders with undrafted RBs. What can he do with Mac in Kyle's system? Well we might see it soon - no guarantee he is the pick, by the way. We'll see on the 29th.
Yeah, I'm not saying Kyle is wrong. In fact, who the hell am I to say what the winning NFL strategy should be? I like Kyle because he goes against the grain, and doing so can yield strides in innovation like what Walsh did with the WCO. But hubris can get in the way, as the sum of parts can always be diminished by the weakest link in a chain, especially if it occurs at the QB position. I say pick the guy with the highest ceiling and trust your staff to get him there.
