Are we talking about a bodybuilding contest or are we talking about playing football?

If he's able to do split squats with this kind of load, I think he's doing just fine for a QB.

Some people just don't put on muscle very easily and Jones seems to have all the hallmarks of a typical hard-gainer.

The weight issue is so overblown. People keep going back to the same photo that came from 2019. If you look at recent pics of him, he looks to be perfectly fine, especially for a pocket passer.

He doesn't have to lose a ton of weight - just tone up.

Lol. Maybe not that much.

Also, I hope you enjoyed searching for that gif!

What happens if, for some reason Shanny is fired? Would Jones still be good in another system? That's my issue. I want a QB that would be great in any system. I know it's not likely if we continue to Make the playoffs, but I didn't think it likely Harbaugh would be fired after his success. To me, Fields is most likely to succeed in any system.

I mean if we draft Fields/Lance and Shanny is fired. There is a 99% probability that they were the reason. So no matter who we draft if Shanny gets fired it's because the QB failed so it means he couldn't succeed in ANY system

Kaepernick was not the reason Harbaugh was fired.

Keep signing that petition guys....

Glad it's decisive enough they finished early.

I'm hearing it's between Jones and Lance. Not Fields

I hear the same and also it makes sense. Fields doesn't have Sarkisian or Lance with his Kyle 2.0 offense.

That's an interesting take OTC! If it turns out to be Mac, then there was some leak (either via Chris Simms or other). And if not, it follows Lynch's MO that there's no leaks at all.

Or there was never any leak and everyone and their uncle could see the fit with Jones in Shanahan's offense. Its why I made this thread in the first place. Go look at the first page and some of the comment there and that was back in November. You don't need some special Deepthroat level source to figure out that Shanahan would show interest in him.

That wouldn't fully explain the amount of buzz between the Niners and Jones, especially with Fields and Lance on the board and generally better regarded prospects

Damn split squats with four plates?? That's not a weak dude.

It just makes sense. He's went to two super bowls with the kind of QB he likes. (the Kirk Cousins model)

Sure it would. Simms knows Shanahan well and everyone knows that Simms knows Shanahan well. Even if they didn't talk at all about the QB's in the draft, it reasonable to assume that Simms has pretty good insight into what Shanahan likes so when he came out firing with Jones as the guy the 49ers were most likely to take, it wasn't all that hard for many others in the media to follow along. Its the same way everyone was sure that the Browns were taking Darnold a few years ago, only for them to take Mayfield. Cleveland didn't leak a thing, people just assumed.

I'm just saying that if you want to be the third pick in the draft you should put work in to look the part. Injuries are an unfortunate part of our recent history, and taking pride in building an NFL caliber body while you're in college shows you're on another level of preparedness. Mac looks like he's been having fun, which I can totally understand as I was also once a 22 year old. The other two, however, seem to take more pride in getting NFL ready in all facets between brain and build.

Yep and just imagine if Jones is better than either... And on a rookie deal to boot.

Or they just have better genetics for bodybuilding. Manning and Brady both had dad bods too. Were they not hard workers?

Seems you might put too much emphasis on appearance. Frankly I don't give a crap as long as the QB can move the ball from Point A to Point B accurately and consistently. If he's putting in work in film study, if he's putting in work on his mechanics and if he can handle himself reasonably well in the gym, I don't care if he doesn't look like Tim Tebow or Brady Quinn.

Brady did, but again, he's a unicorn. Manning wasn't Adonis, but he also didn't have bologna slices for pecs.
