This year has been an unmitigated disaster. The good news is that the Niners have a nucleus of talent on both sides of the ball to compete for many future championships.

That nucleus includes Moster, Kittle, Deebo and Aiyuk on offense and Bosa, Armstead, Kinlaw and Warner on defense (to a lesser extent Greenlaw and Kevin Givens).

The name of the game needs to be to shed bad salaries now and restock the pool of talent through the draft. With only 12 hours left, here is who I would jettison...

OT Trent Williams: Williams talents are wasted this year; he'll command $17-20M and there are no guarantees the Niners can resign him w/o breaking their cap. There are plenty of teams who would love Williams' services; I think the 49ers can at least recoup their 3rd round selection. Let's move Brunskill ti LT and and slot in McKivitz at RG and let's see what this line can accomplish.

S Jimmie Ward: I never understood the hype on Ward. He's a very very solid player, but he's far from a difference maker worth the $10M a year he's being paid. I think the 49ers can get at least another 3rd round pick for him. It's time to see if Tarvarius Moore can assume a FT role.

S Jaquiski Tartt: Exact same thing that applies to Ward applies to Tartt; he's solid but far from spectacular and he's also coming a FA next year that I doubt we'll resign. Let's get a draft pick (4th or 5th) for him.

K Robbie Gould: Good kickers are worth a lot in the playoffs. Gould is one of the highest paid 49ers making $5M a year. There's no reason to keep him on this team. Trade him for a 6th rounder.

Looking at the remainder of the schedule, I think 6-10 or 5-11 is most likely (there are no wins besides WAS and DAL). That should net this team a top 10 pick.

In the offseason, I think we need to look to trade Jimmy G for a 2nd or 3rd rounder and target Zach Wilson or Trey Lance. With some thoughtful maneuvering the Niners can end up with the following picks:

Top 10 (own)
2nd Round (own)
2nd Round (Jimmy G trade)
3rd Round (Trent Williams trade)
3rd Round (Jimmie Ward trade)
4th Round (own)
4th Round (Tartt trade)
5th Round (own)
5th Round (Kwon Alexander trade)
5th Round (compensatory pick)
6th Round (own)
6th Round (Robbie Gould trade)
7th Round (own)
7th Round (trade for Jordan Willis)

That's 14 picks and a whopping $40M of salary cap space saved for 2021 (not factoring in the likely cut of Dee Ford which would save another $7M).

This gives the team a chance to finally get their QB of the future, completely restock the secondary and upgrade the interior of the OL.

Tell me I'm crazy!?
Trading Trent Williams is a terrible idea. He's back to playing like an elite left tackle, and we're not going to find anyone even remotely as good in the draft or free agency. You don't give away elite players at premiere positions. Let's not create a need for the sake of creating a need.

Everyone else can go.

Yep, "Trading Trent Williams is a terrible idea". Couldn't agree more.
I love the plan. We are stocked with expensive underperforming vet assuming were going to the SB this year and next.
We have big holes we need to fill. We need to get picks and shed salary.
These older vets like Williams will need replaced by the time a rookie QB is ready for a run. Keeping him now is a waste. This would allow us to reload and compete again.
