Unsure what to make of Darnold. Talent is there but he was put in a bad position with the Jets, not great coaching, not a lot of talent around him to support him, he's still young enough that he could develop into the star QB he was expected to be or he could continue down the Blaine Gabbert path and forever be a guy that failed to live up to his draft position. The talent, the leadership ability and the athleticism are all there but he hasn't been able to put it together thus far and you wonder just how much of a difference a change of scenery would make for him.

A hard pass for me, I don't see the IT factor in Darnold, I'm also very wary of USC QBs, so, there's that. It just seems like some colleges just don't develop QBs the way others do.

That's a weird take. Every college in the last 50 years has gone through significant coaching, playing styles and schemes. You're telling me that a college cant produce a quarterback because of... what? Their name.

Its lazy critiquing.

I agree that where a player comes from shouldn't be a big factor. Some colleges have had a run of players from a certain position and get a reputation for producing them. Penn State was LB U for awhile. Stanford had a great history of QBs. That's as much luck as anything else. Look at the top QBs currently in the NFL, not necessarily in order. Mahomes (Texas Tech), Brady (Michigan), Brees (Purdue), Rogers (Cal), Wilson (Wisconsin), Stafford (Georgia). Then we have the newer guys. Herbert (Oregon), Murray (Oklahoma), Burrow (LSU/Ohio State), Jackson (Louisville). There's 10 guys off the yop of my head and not a single repeat of schools.

He looks like a backup until he proves otherwise

he has had trash talent all around him his whole 3 years.
thats even more proof he's not the guy to elevate his team

put Mahomes on the Jets in 2018 and 2019 and see how good he is.

They are fighting for a playoff spot. Put Darnold on the 2019 Chiefs and they win 4-5 games.

This.. Darnold is no Xfactor
I dont know if Darnold is ever going to be any better than he currently is. I just find it so hypocritical to see people posting how terrible he is and not give him the benefit of a plethora of excuses that Jimmy is given. Darnold has had horrendous circumstances around him. Has he played poorly? Absolutely. But he is on the Jets FFS.
give me darnold...draft a top cb ...then get nothing but oline help

Lol exactly.

Darnold is on one of the worst franchises in professional sports where every quarterback has failed miserably.

my comment was that we weren't and still not some juggernaut winning franchise without him

Forgetting of course that the defense was the big difference last year. The Niners rarely trailed by more than one score and led most of the time.because of the defense. Prior to Jimmy and even his 1st year when he was injured, they were still in a rebuilding mode. Jimmy wasn't the missing piece. At least half the QBs in the league could have taken that team to the SB

Your comment misses the point entirely.

All I am saying is that a lot of posters pick and choose which QBs they want give the benefit of 100s of excuses and which ones they dont. Darnold has been horrible, but his circumstances have been too.

Tannehill is primarily the reason why Darnold gets any benefit of the doubt. Tannehill in Tennessee and Tannehill under Gase is a night and day difference.

Yep. I think Darnold under Kyle would be a huge upgrade over Nick and CJ at least...
