Not sure how I feel. Sam Darnold has a ton of talent, but he also needs a ton of work.

He's more talented than any QB on the 49ers roster, but he also needs more work than any of them. The dude's footwork is utter trash and his decision making--how the hell do you fix this? Darnold would be absolutely filthy on the bootlegs, tho. He's one of the best throwers on the move that I've ever seen.

I think this would be best case scenario. Keep JG and have a young backup on a cheaper deal with potential and talent to try and groom. Then use the draft picks to shore up other positions like CB/C/ER

I like this idea. Besides, I'm starting to believe Kyle won't like any of the QBs in the draft.

Sam needs to get with Jordan Palmer in the off season and work on his footwork and tighten up that throwing motion. He did the same thing with Josh Allen this past yr.

I mean it's not like Jimmy has great mechanics and great decision making either lol.

I wouldn't be against it, for a 3rd (that we get from Saleh).

They would have to pick up his 5th yr option, not sure how much that would cost?
Sam needs to spend every offseason for the remainder of his career with Jordan Palmer to fix his mechanics and footwork.

This dude made this great video about Darnold before the season, but everything he says still rings true. Darnold's ability to throw on the move is ELITE. Even when I was s**tting on him during the draft process, I couldn't deny how crazy good he is on the move.

A 3rd round pick is too damn high!!!
He plays for the worst run and most cursed team in football. They will destroy any QB that comes within 5 feet of the building. If I'm Lawrence I'm putting out the word now....DON'T DRAFT ME BECAUSE I'M NOT PLAYING FOR YOU LOSERS.

Yeah. I just think this is the most feasible and prudent option
However why do they have to pick up his 5th year option ? If this is true then no way. I don't get this. If he's making around 7 mil a year, then how does it go to 25 on his 5th?

I agree. Kyle is a play designer and play caller. He's not really a QB whisperer. As you pointed out, none of the Niner QBs have good footwork and refined mechanics. Garcia pointed that out several weeks ago. If they got Darnold or some draft pick that needs work, they need to pay and send him to one of the QB gurus.
I will laugh my ass off if we have both Rosen and Darnold on our roster next year. Anyways I think he is an upgrade but will probably need to sit for bit and quietly retool his game. Sort of how Tannihil did imo.
Could easily see Darnold having a Jake Plummer style resurgence with the Niners. Jets were a dumpster fire, as long as he doesnt have the yips bring him in as a back up knowing its a coin toss JG completes a full season.

It's not that he won't like them it's that him and Lynch would rather fill another need like edge or cb. I would have no problem with Darnold competing with Jimmy. Dude got a horrible situation in NY and I would rather have him backup than CJ or Mullens

I think its all about the narrative. If Darnold is dead set on being a starter next year he is destined for a team with competition at QB but with some hope, maybe the patriots or panthers... If Darnold wants a better situation where he could groom into his potential he is a real possibility for the niners. Shanalynch wont want a controversy with their high priced QB, JG is the man unless a rookie shows insane potential ala Russell Wilson.
