Sam Darnold-Traded to Panthers

WFT might be a spot....I would love for it to be the Panthers, but sounds like they're going big or sticking with Teddy.

Darnold is tricky. My mindset has been that unless it's a clear upgrade like Watson or Stafford, we need to be very careful making a change at QB. Our best best if we can't land either is to draft and develop behind Jimmy. We know this team can win IF Jimmy is healthy. But if we make a bad decision and move on without a clear upgrade we may be in trouble.

Darnold is polarizing because he was a favorite prospect of mine. LOVE the talent and think Gase was the problem there. The opportunity to land a talent like that, save a ton of cap space in a tough year, and not lose a lot of draft capital is very enticing.

But there's also a chance he's ruined and could be a significant downgrade from Jimmy if he's healthy.

I think the 9ers have someone to develop, everyone is just overlooking him. Sure we won't like that decision to stay with just Rosen, but I don't think he's been given a fair shake to develop.

Can't really argue there. If we're looking for a very talented reclamation project, why trade for Darnold when we have Rosen.

I agree with both of you guys. Wasn't Rosen drafted two years ago? He's still green behind the ear. Not saying that he is great but he has some potential.

Rosen on his 4th team in 4 yrs...dude was 4th string practice squad aka coffee guy for the Bucs. Blain Gabbert & ryan Griffin were over him.

Rosen should have no baring on the QB position and what we should be doing for the future...if he was on another team and I said to you that we should develop Rosen vs drafting a QB, you'd tell me to stop it.

He was drafted the same yr as Darnold. He's on his 4th team in 4yrs for a reason.

he's completed like 50% of his passes and has more ints than TDs. I get having him as some project QB who could possibly be a backup.

3rd rounder and I would do it, Go into camp with Jimmy, Rosen and Darnold. Dare one of them to try and take the job from Jimmy. Would bare min be a nice upgrade to the backups which is a big need given how fragile Jimmy. is.

Being on his 4th team in 4 years doesn't tell the whole story though. Not sure how you can disagree with that, plus I already went over it in the Rosen thread I'm not about to hijack this thread.

Wanna do a rundown of all the successful NFL QB's that were high draft picks and were on their fourth team in less than 4 years?

Rosen wasn't put into good circumstances but he's been bad, real bad. He shouldn't be depended on for anything other than being a camp arm.
I say we trade for Darnold so we can have the two QB busts from 2018 on the roster at once.

That moment I realized that USC has put out some productive NFL receivers over the years, consistently....

His rookie year he beat a decent oh wait excuse me, swept a decent 49ers defense. There's a ton of QB's in their rookie year who looked like they didn't belong, Alex Smith and Jared Goff come to mind. Not everyone comes outta the gates firing, especially when that QB gets drafted to an already bad team.

I can almost guarantee you that Rosen will look much much better than Mullens or Beathard ever did with the 9ers. Sure that's such a low bar to hold Rosen to, but it much more than just a camp arm.

But it's funny you say this about Rosen I remember you thinking so highly of him. https://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/nfl/191892-how-good-josh-rosen/search=rosen
