I was thinking he could sit, learn and repair for a year or two as a backup. But as a day-one starter, 49ers will finish in last place if Sam Darnold is the starting QB in 2021.

How can anyone judge his play ...he was with the frigging NY JETS..who have no structure/no nothing. I dont see it as a downgrade whatsoever

Darnold is an upgrade over Jimmy in my mind - he's been in a s**tty situation in NYJ and needs a change of scenery. He's younger than Jimmy and has a bigger upside. I wouldn't mind Darnold for SF in '21, then look in the draft for a Qb next year and do this all over again.

Throw a 2021 4th and Conditional 3rd In 2022 for Sam, Trade Jimmy to the Pats for their 2nd...use that extra 2nd to go get a QB in THIS draft. Give Sam the 5th yr option.

You got a high end rookie sitting and learning, if Sam balls out then you either rock him for another yr or trade him. I mean if he's playing at a MVP level then you think about an extension but worry about that later...if he blows remove the option and let him walk (maybe they get a comp for him signing elsewhere) BUT you still have the rookie chilling there.

Save $20M this yr and can upgrade a f**k ton with some good vets that fit the system. Honestly I don't think SF is winning the super bowl next yr even if Jimmy Jam is the starter. Roster just isn't the same as 2019, we had a lot go right.

Watson was on an awful Texans team last year and looked incredible. Herbert was on a bad chargers team, looked great. Darnold doesn't pass the eye test. I can forgive some of the issues but just watch him play. He's bad

s**t that's who we're comparing him too? I don't think Sam is a FQB more a bridge QB with upside. I can see him putting up Jimmy numbers in this offense, along with that high INT % and WTF throws.

I was going to post this but it's pretty much exactly what I'd do lol

Or just trade for Darnold and they will have the number 1 pick next year. No need to trade up this year!

a bridge to what? so just waste this upcoming year? Shanahans system is hard to learn, that has been proven. So you throw darnold in there, who is already clearly broken, and now shanahan has to unbreak him AND he has to learn an extremely complicated offense? Lol, this isn't madden. Moving on from jimmy and getting darnold will be a disaster and i hope it's not seriously being considered.
Darnold seems like the type of move Shanahan and Lynch would make...Mediocre, boring, and wouldn't cost a lot.
More fuel to this fire

Don't think this one has any legs, but oh is it fun to speculate

Kyle's system is hard to learn only when some posters want it to be. And other times, those same posters will say Kyle can just have the QB hand the football off like jimmy did all 2019.
Kinda comical actually how posters switch what they back depending on the topic!!

kyle does draw up favorable looks for QB's, but that doesn't mean anybody could step in and produce (see Jimmy vs. the other QB's who have started for us during kyle's tenure). Darnold will be a complete disaster. Our division got BETTER at QB and we'd be getting worse lol

more unverified Twitter accounts.
Look at Tannehil after leaving Adam Gase. Went from bad to pretty darn good. I think Sam is more talented. I'd love to see him in SF next year and I like Jimmy when healthy. We can then afford the resign our guys and surround him with good talent. Get Slater at 12 and see how he does with Deebo/Ayuik/kittle and time.

I agree with you 100%

This #anybodybutjimmy is just Ridiculous and comical at the same time especially by some of the posters who beat it to death.
