A 2nd rounder? ugh

A high 2nd would be pretty steep for a QB who might ultimately turn out to be a bust while also on the final year of their rookie contract. I don't for a second buy that the 49ers would trade that much just for him only to "push" Garoppolo.

That is just nonsense. I don't see how there is any possible way if we traded for Darnold we would be keeping Jimmy. Having that type of money tied up in those two players with the number of holes we currently have. If this happened someone needs to get fired.

SF's 2021 2nd rounder is towards the top (#44).
Rosen to MIA went for the #62 pick + a 5th, but that was after 1 bad season in ARI. Darnold has 3 bad seasons on his resume so his value should not be as high as the #44 - not even close imo.

I'm making a comp, in terms of trade value, to Blaine Gabbert when he was traded to SF. Gabbert, after three seasons of wtf football in JAC, went for a sixth-round pick plus a possible conditional pick.
FWIW king said the same thing about Denver giving up their 40th pick...literally the same thing. Dude is working for the Jets now I guess haha

first and only time here in this thread.. no to sam. the team will keep jimmy. if you want to get a qb with a third round pick fine. hell., if alex wants to come back as a back up only on a ultra cheap deal fine. but no to sam. i got sucked in to thinking the pats were going to make us a offer for jimmy. no more of that. f**k peter king and his theories to. you need to move on. accept jimmy being here. and now address trent . the center thing and getting a young hotshot rookie guard

I don't buy it. First NE gets shutdown by Lynch and now they're gonna trade for Darnold?? And I also doubt they tie up that much money at the QB position.
its just peter king making s**t up like he always does
Jets aren't getting a 2nd, they can draft Wilson all they want but they're still going to have Darnold on the roster if they don't get off the crack

If the Niners "need to put pressure" on Garoppolo by spending a 2nd round pick on a backup QB...he's not the guy.

For that reason, I'm calling BS. It doesn't make sense. If they are going to trade a 2nd for a QB that may not be on the roster in 2022 OR will cost significant money moving forward.... why not just draft a QB in the 1st and let him sit behind Garoppolo? At the very least that QB would be under cost control for 5 years.

I think if you get Darnold, you do move on from Garoppolo. If you plan to keep Garoppolo...then you either sign a vet FA QB or take a QB early. But not a NON-CONTROLABLE QB.

2nd round picks are too valuable to blow on a "put pressure on our starter" guy that may never see the field for this franchise.
