What is our best QB option for 2021?

Since we are in the world of pure fantasy on this thread how come Pat Mahomes and Josh Allen are not on the poll?

If traded, Detroit would pay a portion of his salary and would cost us less that Jimmy.

49ers would only be on the hook for $20 million of Stafford's salary. Detroit would save $14 million by trading him, the 49ers would save roughly $7 million by moving from Garoppolo to Stafford.

It'll be Jimmy for next year. From a cost-to-value ratio perspective it makes sense, especially with the team hard against the cap. They'll try Jimmy for one more year and make a final decision after that season when the cap (presumably) goes up and the team is in better financial position to make some moves since a lot of other dead contracts will be off the books.

Agree, good post, Janitor.

Thought that Mahomes is the highest-paid QB?

He is on average. But not in 2021. But Stafford isn't #1 2021 either. Think Goatie just ment on the list.

3...restructure Jimmy's contract

I agree with this...the rest are bad options and the Rookie would depend on how the draft falls but this is my priority ladder.

Yeah Stafford's deal sees the Lions retain a good chunk of his cap hit next year. That is what makes it doable for us, but probably not for them.

They still save money to move him. It's not like Wentz or Ryan where it won't save much at all or even cost to move them.

I expect a lot of teams to take their medicine this year wit contracts not working out. FA's won't be getting big deals and with the uncertainty of the future cap now is the time to take the cap hit if you can afford it. Why the 9ers need to move on from Ford and Richburg this year. Take the medicine now.

I'd be surprised if he gets another shot. Truly awful and selfish as f**k.

Yes it is a good post but I'm not so sure a team ready to contend would wait that long.
If Saleh is going to the Lions next year.. why would he let Stafford go, if he knows his former boss thinks he's good enough to lead the playoff ready 9ers?

You also very conveniently ignore everything that JG does so very well. As for your claim that he's 'just average'' I have a thought. Remember that game last year when the team traveled to NO for a game that was critical in deciding home field advantage in the playoffs? Remember that barely friggn' average QB led the team to a hard fought late game winning TD in that hostile environment? An average QB doesn't win that game, bud. I've been going to Niner games since YA Tittle was the starting QB. I've watched a lot of football and played ball in school until I got hurt. JG is a very good QB. 2/3 of the guys you mention haven't done squat compared to the limited run Jimmy has had. He's a winner. period.
Smh. How many of those guys had the no.2 defense and running game, and Kyle calling plays? You realize that season the 49ers were 29th in passing attempts but 18th in interceptions, right? Garoppolo didn't lead the team to the Super Bowl. He GAME MANAGED the team to the Super Bowl, with the exception of about 10 quarters, give or take, where he was the hero.

PS - Many starting QBs in the league have a great game where they look like the second coming.

This is a fan forum, not a court of law. Turn on any sports talk show on radio or TV and you have people expressing their opinions. Nobody's opinion is any better or worse than another.

Posting stats doesn't always prove an argument either since you can post just the ones you like and ignore the others. Stats can also be misleading like the W-L record of a certain player. It implies he's the reason for the record when in fact he's part of a team that won or lost those games. There are many stats that are merely a number until you analyze them and see what's really behind them. Passing yards alone doesn't tell you the whole story without looking at how much was YAC and how far the ball was thrown. Was it under pressure or a clean pocket. These are just a few examples.

I posted a lot more than raw stats my friend. Care to comment on the mechanical issue highlighted in the video I posted?
