The guy who reported it is an idiot.

Speaking with @JDumasReports in Twitter Spaces about the Watson to 49ers news he pushed forwards as very real today. Here is how it went. #FTTBhttps://t.co/ZmfZVxljDt

As a Lance homer this makes complete sense. Last year I truthfully feel we would've landed Watson if not for everything, and our FO always leaves no stone unturned (even if it doesn't result in anything lol). Even Bill Walsh contemplated Elway for Montana during the draft.
If Watson wants us above all others, and we offer them let's say Lance, a couple 2nds, and Aiyuk how do we say no to that? Watson is proven in this league. Once that report came out earlier we squashed it quick to not end up in a Baker/Cleveland situation since we were only inquiring about it.
With all that being said, I want to move forward with Lance but I can see the logic of inquiring about Watson.

Isn't Watson cap hit this year like $40+ million? If so how could we make that work without reworking every deal

Short interview with the Kron4 sports director that said there's mutual interest between the Niners and Watson. I don't think it will happen but I do believe the Niners were more interested than they're publicly letting on.
Interesting

Jim Trotter on NFLN just now said that Watson wants to play for SF and SF has not reaching out to meet or anything….end of the day if that's the only team he's willing to play for, his camp would have to convince the Texans that's the only place he would waive his no-clause and figure out how to make it work.
He said SF is more than happy with Lance and will not to the route the browns have with Baker.
