The guy who reported it is an idiot.
As a Lance homer this makes complete sense. Last year I truthfully feel we would've landed Watson if not for everything, and our FO always leaves no stone unturned (even if it doesn't result in anything lol). Even Bill Walsh contemplated Elway for Montana during the draft.

If Watson wants us above all others, and we offer them let's say Lance, a couple 2nds, and Aiyuk how do we say no to that? Watson is proven in this league. Once that report came out earlier we squashed it quick to not end up in a Baker/Cleveland situation since we were only inquiring about it.

With all that being said, I want to move forward with Lance but I can see the logic of inquiring about Watson.

Short interview with the Kron4 sports director that said there's mutual interest between the Niners and Watson. I don't think it will happen but I do believe the Niners were more interested than they're publicly letting on.

Isn't Watson cap hit this year like $40+ million? If so how could we make that work without reworking every deal

It wouldn't have worked. Only way would be if Houston liked Lance so much that they covered most of Watson's salary.

John Lynch would be totally out of touch if he thought the fanbase would be excited about punting our 3rd overall top prospect QB for a rapist.

Well, we are already reworking deals to get under the cap. We would have to find at least another 10m saving if we want to pick up Watson's contract in place of Garoppolo. Face it, this means we have to start hollowing out the roster.
I really hope he makes his decision today. Idgaf where he goes he is the last domino... unless he picks the browns then baker will be the true last domino.

uhh you would, if you were right next to him
Jim Trotter on NFLN just now said that Watson wants to play for SF and SF has not reaching out to meet or anything….end of the day if that's the only team he's willing to play for, his camp would have to convince the Texans that's the only place he would waive his no-clause and figure out how to make it work.

He said SF is more than happy with Lance and will not to the route the browns have with Baker.

Today's dot worthy news... you can put it on the board.. YES !!

The list keeps growing...More dots!!

Follow the dots !!

  • -Watson was the most studied QB by Kyle in 2017
  • -Have you not seen the infamous Watson wearing a Niners jersey and saying it was dope
  • -Watson had numerous tweets talking about Shanahan and his offense (and how great it was) while at ATL
-Part of Watson's issues are ownership and lack of diversity, there were racial issues there...SF has lead the way on diversity and BLM.

  • -NFL alumni has talked to him, some even endorsed us to him.
  • -Even saw some people stalking Watson on IG and monitoring him liking all 49er posts and didn't do that for any other team
  • -Maiocco story how no one on the 49ers is off limits for a trade
  • -Watson's list is down to Broncos, 49ers and maybe Miami
  • -Random Twitter handles saying it's gonna happen.....
  • Dolphins sticking with Tua (Respected Miami reporter)
  • OJ Simpson endorsed
  • Watson's personal coach
  • Denver has no chance (Respected Houston reporter)
  • Watson met with the coaching staff, Still wants out
  • Matt Miller on his podcast (SF fan) said he txts Watson's agent once a week about playing in SF
  • Shultz tweet with 49ers meeting with Watson - 3/15/22
  • Jim Trotter on NFLN just now said that Watson wants to play for SF - 3/16/22

IMO It all comes down to whether Jed would sign off(unlikely imo but you never know) and whether Caserio is really high on Trey or if he's just kinda meh on him…

Just a hunch but I don't think Caserio would covet Trey since he comes from the Patriots school of thought and values things more importantly than physical traits. But I'm totally guessing on this stuff obviously.

He should've stayed away from massage parlors then. He would've possibly won a ring last year. Only way this happens if we get him for a steal and we get a kings ransom for Lance. But I don't want nor do I think this happens.
Watson isn't going to jail, so he's available. Watching him take Clemson to the National Championship I thought this QB is the entire package and then some. He's young and would join the ranks of the best 49er QB's of all time. Is he worth taking the risk? Absolutely!
