Deshaun Watson

Smart, but scumbag-ish all at once.

If he's suspended a whole year then his contract tolls and it moves back a year. So the one million season would be in 2023.

Ironic how often those two go hand in hand

Shows a 10m cap hit in 2022, 8m signing bonus I think stays on the books for 2022 ?

Thought experiment. Suppose CLE releases Watson today. Do you think teams would rush to sign him? Would they pay him top dollar? Would you want the 49ers to sign him?
two years out the league and still has the black cloud over him... NOPE

Seattle would be all over it Loins might go for it as well.

lol Read his contract.

Contract Notes:
  • $230M guaranteed (signing bonus + 2022 salary + 2023 salary + 2024 salary + 2025 salary + 2026 salary)
  • $44.965M Signing Bonus
  • Language exists that will not forfeit signing bonus or void future guarantees upon suspension

No team in the history of dumb would cut a guy and still pay him 230m lol
Not only would he miss two full seasons if he does get suspended. Its got to take so much time and mentally draining to go through all those cases; then he has to play for the Browns organization...

100% agree. Especially after Calvin Ridley got a year for gambling. Is the NFL trying to say that gambling is as bad as being sexually aggressive after they themselves allowed a stadium to be built in Vegas and now openly allow gambling for everyone but the players.

i would hardly call what Ridley did as gambling too bet 1500 on draftkings i think while he wasnt even playing in the NFL. I agree it was wrong but i think it was more of he wasnt aware of the rules but it wasnt like he was point shaving

My point is that what Ridley did is much less egregious and less creepy than what Deshaun is being accused of. Sounds like you agree with me.
I wonder how Browns fans will feel this year watching Jimmy instead of Watson. They know he'll only be there a year. Suppose by chance that the Browns make it to the SB ( the first in team history). How will they feel letting Jimmy go for a serial sex offender the next year.

I wonder how much of the details of these cases did Cleveland know about before they gave him this contract.

I watched the intro presser they claimed to have done their extensive due diligence. What I wonder.. is there language in the contract where they could void. Per Cleveland Plain Dealer paper.. there is.

The Browns do have "typical club protection" that would "enable them to void the contract in the event actions take place after it was signed, or actions from beforehand that come to light that would prevent him from fulfilling his duties." But so far, nothing "has transpired since he signed the deal" in March that has caused the Browns to "change their view of Watson or contemplate trying to get out of the contract."

Notice some new allegations came out after the deal was signed.. allegations from the HOU days.. but not publicly known prior to the CLE trade.. if Watson failed to disclose to his new team.. these allegations could perhaps void his contract.. this would likely need litigated as Watson would surely challenge..

This could of course void the contract.. they are still out the draft picks.. the fact they spent the draft picks may mean they won't even pursue voiding the contract.. they already have a steep sunk cost.

You would think that the Browns truly did there due diligence but i wouldn't be shocked if they half assed it. Probably why the owners made sure not to show up at their intro press conference. As more and more details come out the Browns just look worse and worse. Especially hafter setting his contract up soe that he doesn't lose a ton of money this 1st year due to a suspension. I'm thinking the 4 women that are holding out must really have some damaging s**t out there on him more severe than the other 20.

Exactly

I don't get how people should think he needs to be cut in the first place. Look at Kraft & Snyder, no one is calling for their heads or demanding that they give up their ownership stake. I think it is crazy to think that the Watson should be held accountable when the owners are doing the same thing he's doing.

Watch him get suspended and then have it reduced via an appeal.
