Give him a good man coverage CB so he can do what he wants to do. I think losing Verrett so early put a crimp on the offseason talk about being more aggressive when it comes to pressing WRs at the line. He has shown to adjust his defense accordingly based on the opposition which I like to see. As he gains more experience and confidence, I think we'll start seeing even more diverse gameplans.

Wow, thl, get out of my head, dude. I was coming in here to post about how better the defense could've been with a healthy Jason Verrett. Unfortunately, I don't think we have the draft resources to get a true lockdown man corner. Those guys typically go early in the first. If they want one, they're going to have to pay for one or trade for one. I have no suggestions since I'm still in mourning and haven't even begun to look at free agency/trade options.

They can be found in later rounds. Josh Norman and Uncle Dick we're both 5th round picks. We seem to do pretty well in that round if I'm not mistaken.

They are talking about Man CBs. Sherman rose to fame playing zone. Norman really had 1 amazing year

No time. Get donatell in as special advisor. he was fired right?

Ryans did just fine without having anyone overlooking his shoulder. With a year of calling plays under his belt and some upgrades at CB, this defense should be even better next year.

Neither of those dudes was a man corner lol.

Isn't he a free agent? Yes, please. In fact, I'm going to pencil him in as my #1 wishlist FA player.

Likely to be franchised

Yup. The defense early on was pretty stout but was not creating turnovers. Look at what we did in the playoffs against 3 dynamic offenses.

Dallas - 17 points
Green Bay - 10 points
Los Angeles Rams - 20 points

Those are insane points to hold those offenses to. I almost want Lance to take risks next year, throw some picks as long as he's also putting up points, because as long as we score 24 points, I think we can win any game with our defense. In addition, even if Lance throws a pick, I fully trust this defense to hold and give the ball back to the offense.

Our defense will be Lance's best asset for success next season. And DeMeco is the main reason. I'm so glad he's decided to stay one more season. He'll probably be a top coaching candidate next off-season.
Jim Harbaugh once again helping out the 49ers.

Kinda makes sense to me now why DeMeco stayed put.

Fangio was fired. Staff is free to look for work usually but can also stay on with a new HC if he wants to keep them. Ed may also be looking to follow Vic wherever he goes unless someone offers him a DC gig.

I guess maybe Fangio was waiting for Harbaugh to land the Vikings job? What's the word on Wink Martindale? Anything on where he is going to end up?

Once again still super stoked that Ryan's is back next year! This defense should be even better next year especially if they can create more turnovers on the back end!
Chi lifer….Meco did the right thing, he stayed on to learn more and now that he knows he has talent for DCing, and drew some attention, he can learn the other things in off season re: drafting, OCing, STing, talent eval, how to build a team from scratch, how to pick an owner, etc. Basically what he did was gain knowledge re: interviews, but now , he returns as our DC, but this time with cachet. No. Question the guy has real talent for DCing. Now he needs some talent at CB (TWO) and S (one). That and we hope Ambry continues to improve, plus we get something from Hufanga, et al. If we happened to get an Edge, that wouldn't hurt either but good luck with that.

And no there was no conspiracy to rob us of our coaching staff, tho it sometimes seemed like that. So we are good, Meco is sitting in great shape for the future, and all is well. As an aside McVay has really had a run on his coaches, and is kept busy making new hires now every season.
Let's get this man some DB's

To paraphrase American poet Henry W. Longfellow "One, if by FA, and two, if by draft"
