DeMeco Ryans, Texans HC

When Saleh was interviewing for jobs a few offseasons ago, DeMeco Ryans--despite a few naysaysers on here arguing against it--was his obvious replacement. Unfortunately, I'm not sure the next 49ers' DC is on the team.

I think it's time for Lord Fangio to return. It's going to suck losing Kocurek and the wide 9, but I envision Fangio finishing the remainder of his DC career here if he's hired. We'll get an elite DC and stability at the spot since nobody will be looking to hire Fangio as a head coach.

Do you think there's a chance Fangio adapts and stays with a W9 and heavy rotation?

I can't see Fangio switching to a base 9.

While the 49ers are basically running wide 9 in the front/Fangio in the back right now, but I don't think he will uproot his scheme to accommodate Kocurek. But that would be pretty cool if he was open to it.

Daniel Bullocks will get in house consideration I would imagine.

I can't either but with so much success in it and how well Kocurek develops DL, it would be a big loss IMHO. He's so good, he can affect your team building strategy.

Good point. I hadn't really thought about an internal candidate who'd be next in line.

Bonus is that if Fangio returns, Donatell might come back too since he's definitely getting fired as DC of the Vikings.

Yeah, I don't think moving on from Kocurek is an easy decision by any means, especially for a team that's defensive philosophical belief begins in the trenches. Kocurek's ability to maximize every single DL player he works with is an irreplaceable asset.

It wouldn't surprise me if keeping Kocurek is priority #1 for the team when considering a new DC this offseason.

Over a decade of coaching experience.

Cory Undlin is going to be the inhouse candidate.

Given what Kyle's been through, you'd think there would already be one training right now.

Agreed. Vic is great, but we should not be changing our scheme.
