That effing sucks.

Gotta wonder who's gonna fork over stupid money for Payton (and paying off their current HC) plus they made to trade for Payton too. He's still under contract in NO.

I wonder too!

SP Overrated to the max but wasn't Fangio seen at some of our training camp sessions? I could swear I read that somewhere before the season. If the DC position opens, and I really hope not, there could be a gentlemens handshake there in mutual interest. John is a bright guy. He knows what's probably coming. It would have been a good idea to do some early courting with Vic.

Why would Vic want to go to a s**t team rebuilding or rebuild in process with Mr. Overrated over one of the best defenses ever? With this organization?

That's one of the problems that pops up when you get a good team. All the other teams want to pick off your coaches even if they aren't really good HC candidates. It reminds me of colleges like Oregon that hire assistant coaches out of the SEC who recruit well and then are disappointed in 2 years when they leave for an SEC HC opening.

Usually works out.
Mike Nolan has the same thoughts when he hired Norv Turner.

Norv Turner leaving was a shock to the system that year. Especially happening soo late.

Though Fangio would be a great hire, I'm curious to see if we have anyone internally up to the task or in giving an opportunity to someone else. DeMeco was always seen as a rising star, but who was Saleh before he came here? Kyle has had pretty good eyes for picking up and coming coaches.

Fangio has been in and outta here all up in our building during this administration and if Kyle wanted him, he would be able to outbid Sean Payton I am sure of it. With the talent we keep collecting defensively I am sure we will have excellent DCs clamoring for this job

I could see Dan Quinn taking the job if Jerry fires McCarthy.

Did Dan Quinn blamed Kyle for the Superbowl loss?

I wonder how much John Lynch is involved in the Defensive Coaching hires.

Saleh was grooming DeMeco from all reports. There hasn't been anyone in grooming school this time. Next up would be like a Kris K but he may be a little too downtown (don't know the word to pick) he's is frigging awesome but not sure I picture him as "finished" But boy I love him.

I think next up is outside. I still say Vic.

Norv Turner absolutely gave the 49ers fits when he was OC at Dallas. It seemed like no matter what the defense did Turner found ways to beat us.

Not that I know of, Quinn spoke very highly of Shanny before the playoff game against Dallas last season.

Ok. He was no Matt Ryan then.

I am wondering how often does that happen in the NFL: An assistance coach got hired by another team as a Head coach, he then hired his former head coach as an assistance coach.
Yeah he was at training camp this year. Could only find Grant video in Google search. So sorry! But I think no grudge. He, John and Kyle could work. But anyway, yeah he was visiting preseason.

He is currently the Eagles consultant. I am not sure how many teams he actually attend practice this offseason.

Yeah but we will most likely have an opening. Eagles may or may not. Off season will be interesting.

This is the other part. It's hard enough to get a head coaching job as a defensive coordinator, and considering the 49ers are likely to have created two head coaches that were defensive coordinators in two of the last three hiring cycles. Any quality defensive coordinator with an expiring contract or any defensive guy that is a position coach and wants to ultimately become a head coach has got to see this job as the destination.

Dan Quinn is probably a HC candidate himself in this cycle. If Jerry did indeed fire McCarthy, I'm still not so sure about him. Quinn seemed pretty cool letting Kyle take all of the heat over that 28 - 3 debacle.

It happens pretty often. I'm sad examples escape me, but I remember this a lot. I can't clearly remember Quinn saying anything bad about Kyle, but I don't remember him defending Kyle in the aftermath either.

I felt like Kyle took the biggest blame somehow. He was just an OC...

He did and I don't remember anyone coming to his defense. I clearly remember Freeman, Matt Ryan, and Roddy White (retired by then) throwing Kyle under the bus. I can't remember Quinn's comments.

Need to do something about Lenoir. He seems to be the only weak link on defense. Ambry played well in the playoffs last year - wish we'd give him some run.
