Meh
It would be a big system change and a step backwards.

They've been needing a QB for several years and thus far their GM hasn't appeared to know what a quality one looks like.

If it was me, I'd take the Houston job, get one of the best QB prospects of the past few years in Bryce Young and build up the defense and OL like Kyle did when coming to the 49ers. Even have Young sit as a rookie, letting Davis Mills and whoever else take the brunt of the hits while building the roster.

I think I'm with you Woo. Having Fangio back would be exciting, but you're right big system change. I much rather hire within and hopefully not missing a beat. But looking at the staff right now not sure who would be a good candidate, the only one I can think of is Josh Bullocks.

Yes, let's keep the production line going. The continuity has led to great growth. Not a time for a change.
Double his salary and keep him. Also, If I'm Kyle and John, I am already grooming his replacement....Should not be caught flat footed on this one...a long time coming.

But isn't Lovie Smith still the head coach??
Texans owner is toxic. Hope he stays far far from them. If think Dan Quinn will be the first defensive coach hired this off season then DR

I don't think he's toxic, I think he hired some toxic people. The franchise was fairly stable under his dad and then junior took over and inherited Bill O'Brien along with hiring Jack Easterby who has been fired.

Ryans does have history there and if they do move on from Lovie then you get the #1 pick in the draft, you get some decent talent across that roster, basically zero expectations for an immediate turnaround and a fanbse that will be psyched to see any signs of life coming from that franchise.

That said, I think the Panthers job, with the level of defensive talent they have across the board, is probably the most enticing, even without a QB in place. Brian Burns, Derrick Brown, Jaycee Horn, lots of top young talent.

I think if there's no one to replace Demeco Ryans right now on the staff then the outside hire I hope they go is Gus Bradley. Assuming he doesn't stick around in Indy of course. And correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Shanahan on the verge hiring Gus Bradley in 2017??

Most openings are going to suck. I guess having Russell Wilson potentially rebound could be the best head start of the jobs available. Colts have no QB, Panthers have no
QB, Texans have no QB, Saints have no QB, Cardinals have the overpaid Kyler mess, etc. Hopefully he doesn't fall for the "Im going to be the savior to my former team and bring a SB to Houston" emotional trap.

Is Denver really going to be that quick about grabbing another one of our DCs for a Head Coaching gig when the last one they tried failed?

I don't think they are going for a defensive minded coach this time. I think they are going to try to find an offensive minded coach that can somehow fix Russell Wilson. Don't think it will work though, but they have to try something.
That would be best for Denver because they are stuck with Wilson. Also, Fangio technically wasn't our guy when they hired him. But for that mess Denver is in, the absolutely need a proven play caller. He isn't a hot name, but I wonder if Frank Reich gets some sniffs.

Carolina is the most appealing to me. Clearly they have some fight, are in a terrible division (as is Houston), and though they may draft too low to get a top QB, they have some draft capital to work with, and could potentially just sign Jimmy. Houston on the other hand is more like the 49ers when Kyle got here, maybe slightly more talent. I will say they have a backup of the future in Davis Mills, which may not seem like a big deal, but really is a big deal. They have a guy that they can play until they find the real guy. There's also Indy.

DeMeco is as good as gone. He stayed on an extra year to prepare (wise move by him), but I can't see him being here another year. If it happened, great for us and shame on the NFL. But doubling his salary isn't going to stop this train from coming.

He has and what's funny is if Gus came, he'd probably have had another HC shot. Anyone coming here has to know that this is a springboard to a future HC position if you want it. With that said, I think Kyle pretty much is going to have his pick of who he wants, internal and external, provided said coach is willing to keep the wide 9.

Indeed. Better situation than Denver imo. Wilson is an albatross with that contract.

Hard pass. Gus never advanced beyond his basic Seattle scheme. This defense has advanced way past that.

If he goes to Houston then Bryce Young will be his QB long term. He's going #1 no matter who the HC is. Young is an outstanding prospect. Looking back over the last three or four years, I put him behind only Lawrence among draft eligible QBs.
I think we are in good shape on Defense regardless of who we hire if Ryan's leaves.

I like the idea of having Bradley or Fangio (who I believe could run any style of defense at this point).

Young probably will be the 3rd QB taken in this draft.
