None of these available jobs this hiring cycle are any good. If he was smart, take some interviews, gain experience there, and wait until next years cycle.
Jobs usually don't open up because they are going perfect.
Best kind of job you can get is a team that is basically a dumpster fire where they have a lot of picks and a lot of Cap Space. And you have an Owner that just wants to change everything because nothing has gone right for a while. This gives you a chance to really stamp your own legacy on the team.
I think that is kind of what Kyle fell into.
Having a lot of picks and cap space are only helpful if you know what you're doing. Even then you have to get lucky. Some of the worst teams in NFL history have had a lot of high draft picks and signed some big time free agents but they still lose. DeMeco has done a great job with a defense that was largely already in place. That doesn't mean he would be able to draft or sign the right players to rebuild a train wreck.
Exactly. You'd honestly rather have a few key pieces in place at QB, OL, DL etc than a team that is horrible everywhere. A new coach spending 2-3 years in the cellar of the league is a good way to get fired.
You'd rather come in an have instant success ala Mike McDaniel or Lafleur than have them questioning your competence after the first couple games.
I'm also not a huge fan of drafting a new QB because QB draft evaluations are so hit or miss and you're basically staking your career on 1 player. Look at Saleh… he could be back on the market after next year if they don't get the QB thing figured out
