I'm happy for him, but no interviews until AFTER our season is done.

It doesn't work that way.

Its so bizarre to me that coaches focused on game planning for thier next playoff game are also up all night creating presentations and talk tracks for HC interviews.

seems counter productive to playoff integrity.

League seems to be slowly creeping towards that direction. Can't interview in person any personnel until after the wild card game now if they're in the play-offs.

That said a team CAN refuse to allow someone to be interviewed while their season is going. It has happened. It's just not normal.

agreed.

would seem like a toxic culture if you are denying people a chance to get promoted.

I deleted my post only because the rules keep changing and I'm not entirely sure what the current rules are.

I think there are limits in place this season that prevent anyone from interviewing in person until the season is over or wildcard game is over.

I believe head coaching positions can be blocked until the season is completely over..but it doesn't happen often.

I don't think anyone should be blocked from interviewing, but I do think it's fair to bar it from happening until the season is over..including play-offs.

Delaying is not denying, imo. And it's unfair to distract someone during the play-offs.

It is hard to make it right. I don't know how you can fit the interview window for playoff teams as well as NCAA coaches.

Headline is "if" he leaves, dude is gone and he should be. I'll be sad but I'm happy for him.

Which job is he headed to?

One of the head coach positions guaranteed

I still think Raheem Morris is a DC candidate if Ryans leaves and LA's coaching staff gets blown up.

I feel like the 49ers would just promote someone off the defensive staff.

Admittedly have not paid much attention since Ryan's was the heir apparent. Who's next in line internally?

The Cardinals job could be appealing since they have so many pieces (QB, WR) in place already.

One of whom is recovering from a late season ACL injury and the other has supposedly expressed a desire to be traded.

How about Brian Flores? Thought he was decent as a HC but something happened between him and their ownership seemed like a hard nosed D coach.

I don't think anything is guaranteed.

Still better than the Texans.

With Kliff gone presumably Hopkins would reconsider and I doubt he has any leverage.

Yep... Demeco is definitely a prized coaching candidate... but there are 5 openings, and supposedly Demeco isn't interested in the Texans.

Considering that Harbaugh, Payton are in the mix... It's entirely possible that Demeco could end up staying with us another year.

Is it though? Cardinals are locked into a QB that needed a "do your homework" clause in his contract before the team removed it. Hopkins is getting traded, JJ Watt is retiring and if you get the job, you still get to face Kyle Shanahan and Pete Caroll twice apiece each year.

Also you need the approval of said "homework clause" needing QB before they'll hire you.

With Houston you have a buttload of picks, cap space, the ability to build a team as you desire and in a very weak division.

It's literally the owner telling GM candidates that Hopkins will be traded.

Current Roster: Cardinals > Texans. Mind you, I admittedly haven't done a deep dive into each team, but at first glance, it feels like a good coach could turn the Cardinals around sooner than the Texans.

Capital: Texans > Cardinals. As you said, the Texans have more cap space and capital. If a coach is interested in building up a team, then yeah, the Texans are a more attractive bet.

Competitiveness vs. Division: Texans > Cardinals. The NFC West is stronger than the AFC South, with the 49ers and Seahawks... And depending on what happens with McVay, the Rams could conceivably return to form next season.

Ownership: Cardinals > Texans? --- This I'm not sure about, as the Cardinals ownership looks silly after firing their Head Coach + the GM resigns, a year after extending both of them. Meanwhile the Texans have shown a bad history in their coaching/front office hirings/firings. I don't think Lovie Smith got much of a chance, being one and done here.

Honestly... Neither are great situations. But I guess a major question is how good/patient the owners are. From what I've read, the Texans don't seem to be a very good ownership group.
