I like how he's approaching the defense. Very much Charlie Sumner 2.0. We shall see...
Al Davis and Ron Wolf said it constantly in regards to their defensive philosophy; the quarterback must go down and go down hard. Charlie Sumner was more than happy to accommodate them.

There are definitely going to be guys getting burned this season more than in recent years. It's just the nature of playing man since you can't blanket every receiver on the field on every snap.
But it's also going to create more opportunities for turnovers if our pass rush is bringing the heat.

100%. Fans just need to be prepared to see them give up some big plays.

Maybe Ryans loved playing under Bush or maybe take principles of others as well. Maybe Billy Davis who he had a goodSeason under in 2013, Billy Davis has an aggressive play style. In 2014 Billy Davis's Defense had 49 sacks. That 2014 season Ryans was injured half the season.
— Marco Martinez (@Marco_Mart1205) June 2, 2021The scheme that team ran looked a lot like a 3-4, but was in reality a 4-3 "under" system. It's actually very similar to the Bill Parcells, and Bill Belichick. Will be interesting to see how Ryans adjust his defense. IMO Gonna stop the run by controlling gaps and pressure the QB.

This doesn't sound like the wide 9 we've been running. I wonder how much Demeco is actually going to change this season.
I dont think formations will change at all...but philosophy may change dramatically under Demeco.

Playmaking from the safeties and the pass rush getting there are critical if we are going to pin our ears back and go for it. We have have the pieces when healthy to be game changing. I actually prefer it, I know it is boom/bust, but the bend but dont break philosophy is just a recipe for losing close games late.

True yet i am curious how much freedom he gets under first year with KS.
Kyle may dictate some of the philosophy.

I think KS will let him do his thing just like he did with Saleh.

I'm surprised no one asked him if they were staying base wide9. I don't think Ryans' playing experience in that 2013 PHI defense means he is going to use a 4-3 Under, hopefully that time has passed. I'm not a fan of going back to that. Kocurek is still on board so that makes me think wide9 is still the base front. If they want to play fast, then stick with the wide9 and don't flip flop between 4-3 Under and Wide9. Makes it easier on the DLs and LBs.
Jason Verrett confirms what new 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans said about the unit's plans: It'll be more aggressive, and that means more press coverage from the corners
