This is a nice vid on what the Rams did last season (Tite front, two gap). It's true what Samson said. (good part starts at @ 2:20)

Wow, Thl, can we pin this? That Staley is one smart dude. 1st yr Rams DC gets him Charger HC. Not too shabby. He must be really sharp, like the Kyle of Ds.

As for the 4-3FAST, you did note which # the FAST was attached to? But i wasn't thinking the Brandon Staley D....like it was stated, not every team has a Donald that eats up two blockers nor do they have a Jalen Ramsey that absolutely takes their #1 WR out of the game. My thot was that Demeco was saying what has been noted above....we'd see more LB blitzing....or corners.

I linked the Rams video just to show what Samson was doing last season.

That is the one best vid i have seen in a long time. It is terrific...and so was the Rams D...with two 5 star players. That helped too. But i agree completely wtih your first post above. Demeco was talking (i think) about LBs/CB blitzing. We all wished we had seen more of that from Saleh. But he stayed pretty true to 4 man DL rush, straight up.

Yeah, I just wanted to say that when it comes to playing fast/aggressive, there isn't much more that the 49er DL can do than what they've already been doing the past couple seasons. It was already a penetrating, one gap front - that's what I think of when I hear "fast and aggressive", when it comes to DL play. So I can only deduce that when Ryans talks about being more fast and aggressive, that he's referring to the secondary and blitz frequency. Saleh definitely upped his blitz frequency in 2020 (compared to 2019), I wish I had numbers to back that up.

I'd like Ryans to have a gameplan specific scheme. Don't blitz because that's your identity, blitz because that's what the opposing offense will struggle with. If the opposing offense has answers/players that can beat the blitz, then don't blitz often in that game. This applies to playing zone or man, single high or two deep, etc.

Really like the "game plan specific " part. Do it if the O struggles with it. Don't if we cant' beat 'em. With Saleh it was pretty much. "Here we are, and only 4 of us are coming at ya'". We got a rare taste of blitz. Same wiht zone/man or single high/ 2 deep. We just didn't see enough of something else last yr on D. And a lot of us wanted to see exactly that.

Of course with 7 or our 8 starting /rotational DL out at one time or another, that was a major league problem also.

Be really nice if Coach K ends up being the Bob McK of the DL.

and i still like Demeco's D as 4-3FAST.

I know Eric Wright, Lott, Eric Davis, Merton Hanks, tim mckyre, don Griffen, Deion Sanders were legendary players from past championship defenses. I like the new emphasis on DB play (two cornerbacks and a safety drafted in this years draft) vs linebacker play. It goes, I think, with the modern pass first offenses. In other words, in dealing with pass first offenses, have a pass first defense.

P.S. Its interesting how the Tite Front defense essentially gives up the outside run to protect the inside gaps on RPO plays.

i was wondering too lol
The new OC Mike McDaniel he said DeMeco was the mike linebacker right from the get-go when he was drafted in 2006, exactly like someone else I know name rhymes with Horner. McDaniel was there just starting as an intern under Kyle. This is why Fred and DR are so in sync. They're twins separated at birth. I'm not worried one single f**king bit about Ryans as DC knowing he came in right as a rookie and called plays in the defensive huddle just like Fred. Holy s**t how old is McDaniel because he looks like he's 24 and he's been in coaching for 15 years.

you need the right players to play cover 2 also
Read Kyle's lips…he expects Demeco to be more aggressive than Saleh. Check that, "to GAMBLE " more than Saleh,. That has to mean one thing…blitzing …under the right circumstances.
