On average, an NFL offensive coordinator will be in the $1 million range in terms of his salary. The first coordinator to break the million-dollar barrier for an annual salary was then-Redskins coordinator Marvin Lewis in 2002.

A young man who wants to move up the ladder and who is both prudent AND smart, will// should do all he can to learn ALL he can in the OCing business. And if he is ultimately looking for a HC job down the line, then the #1 thing he can do to improve his chances of succeeding is to follow HC BW example.

By the time GOAT HC BW finally became HC, he had coached every position on the field, was versed in talent evaluation, how to build a team, how to draft, who to re-sign and who not, who and when to FA, plus he had a sharp eye for the folks he worked for…GM and owner, to name a few. That is rare in the coaching world today, and is why so many new HCs fail.

Like other things in life, the more one knows about his job, the more likely one is to succeed. I think McD stays around awhile longer. Nonetheless, it is nice to be considered, and the more interviewing one does, the better he gets at it. And then one day with luck, the magic job comes up.

There is also learning through failure. You don't gain head coaching experience just by being an OC. Mike Shanahan learned a lot about defense and head coaching through his two years with Al Davis early in his career as a head coach. Got to go and fail to succeed. Unfortunately, a lot of youngsters (and many adults) have been dissuaded from that route by woke teachers who can't stand failure. Failure is just the opposite side of the coin of success. If I was McDaniel, I'd jump at the opportunity to fail by being a HC for a bottom feeding organization. Scancarello took a chance, failed, and now he's back with Shanahan, much wiser and probably more knowledgeable too. Trey's development has been breathtaking - and benefitted probably from Scancarello's failures with the Broncos.
^^^interesting take, Giedi. Never thot about it that way but it is true.

they call that the Knox school…as in the school of hard knocks

I read he wouldn't go to a team in a state that doesn't have legalized marijuana.

It was a random tweet, but it came off convincing lol.

Everything is hard Knocks if you look at it *negatively* It's all "stepping stones" if you look at it positively. Trouble is, most people are negative and that, unfortunately, stunts their growth.
I'm sure he's pretty much always the smartest guy in the room.

Not every person is built to be a HC and lead a team, I think Mike is a super smart football mind. I do not think he's built to be a head coach and lead a locker room of 90 dudes and deal with everything else that comes with that.

some coaches are just good coordinators, same thing as coach K here. He knows what he is and loves being a DL coach. He's paid very very well to do that as well.

Smart as s**t, does he have the traits to be a HC? I'm not sure sure about that. It's goes beyond just X's and O's

also would SF get a comp pick if he becomes a HC? He's biracial.

I agree. But with our luck he'll think he can and somebody will give him a shot.
imagine going from Flores to McDaniels Love Mike but man I'm not sure he's a leader of men kinda coach. Who would he put together as a coaching staff? Kyle ain't gonna let him take apart our staff. Not two years in a row.

hmmm I mean I could see that lol. He did have an alcohol issue in ATL.
McDaniel reminded me of a guy in high-school chemistry. You're lucky if you see him 2 times a week in class. Aced the semester exam while the valedictorian struggled to make a 76, the rest of us failed miserably. Long hair, scruffy looking. Iron Maiden t-shirt. Might not have bathed since the last time you see him in class.

Make you questioned the whole monotonous repetitive purpose of class schooling.

Wonder if he has the personality to be tactful enough to deal with other subordinate coaches once he's a HC. Delegate in a tactful way to get results. He might be the 'I'll just f**king do it myself' type lol
