Good for Mike McDaniel, as many have said, KC, GB, LAR, NO all have OCs, but the HCs call the plays, so yes it's just a new title in a sense, but he'll take on more responsibilities, I'm happy to keep him, and having DeMeco as the next DC.

Coaching staff is a nice mix of young and older vets.

But our coordinators could be hot shots and people might try to grab them as HCs sooner than wed like. But thats a good thing cause that would mean our team is elite
I hope it's Kyle self scouting and realizing he needs a second set of eyes, and not merely an ornamental title. Hope we see 2017 Jimmy again.

It's a better pick up line at the bar also.

He's probably not gonna be at a bar

Maybe the salad bar at the team cafeteria

Personally, if I was Saleh and wanted a run dominated offense, I'd have taken Benton and made him my OC. Just my .02

Benton is just an OL coach. McDaniel is considered a brilliant mind and an innovative run designer. Mike Shanahan used to rave about how smart McDaniel was and why his potential allowed him to stick around despite his alcohol issues. But I just learned that LaFleur and Saleh are BFFs. Apparently, LaFleur was Saleh's best man at his wedding. It was a no brainer for him then.

Good for us.

Saleh is best friends with Lafleur's brother Matt(Green bays coach). He was the one who was the best man at Saleh's wedding. Still the connection is there between Saleh and Mike.
Just cause he isn't calling the plays doesn't mean he won't have more responsibilities. He will be in charge of helping out together the offensive game plan, installing it during the week etc. I would be mind blown if it was "just a ghost title".

He also will most likely be giving Kyle input during the game and talking him through strategy.

Well, you kind of made my point. I don't think Saleh would want a run oriented offense, which is what Benton would bring - due to his OLine background. Iike you said, Benton's not going to bring much in the passing game - a la Greg Roman and his ground and pound game. But totally agree with you that McDaniel is one of the top notch young offensive minds in the business. Just a personal opinion, but I have a high respect for Benton's coaching. I know the OLine probably had crap statistics this year, but I think Benton is also another of those up and coming coaches. I can see him be a Greg Roman/John Madden kind of OC sometime in the future.

But again, I think there was a gentlemen's agreement between Kyle and Saleh about who Saleh would poach from Kyle. What that was, I could only guess, but I think Saleh got some offensive coaching advice from Kyle and both guys settled on Saleh taking Leflure.
SO, what do you guys think exactly will our new OC do?

design and call the plays??

.. and Shanny will just walk around and command ?

I just can't see this happening...

My take is that it's just McDaniel's move is symbolic title to prevent Saleh from poaching him (or any other team for that matter), Kyle's going to be the playcaller. What I can see though is McDaniel being more involved in crafting the passing game, in addition, to his old responsibilities crafting the running game. Having one guy doing the planning and assisting the HC vs two guys (with two different perspectives) - might make the passing and running game more efficient, and hopefully eliminate those WTF throws by Jimmy.

I think he's better off becoming the QB coach and teach Grappy how to read defenses.. because Kyle relied on his gimmick passing plays, it slowed Grappy's development on how to read defenses..

Pick any games that you want to watch again this year and you can see Jimmy struggled when he has to read defenses or when the play is not a gimmick..

each time he has to drop back and find the open receiver, the guy is slow in his progression..

Even the nicest pass he completes, you can tell that its off of a gimmick play where his target " will be there "..

Kyle doesn't gimmick
The OC can do all the scheming and play calling for the targets to get open. But it means nothing if the QBs keep missing them.
Jimmy G missed an open Bourne for the game winning TD against Arizona in week 1
CJ didn't even see a wide open Dwelley for a likely TD against Seattle in week 17, forced it to Kittle which went incomplete
Rewind to the SB and you'll see more misses to an open Kittle
Shanahan head must explode everytime he sees a guy open and the QB either miss or not see him.

I had read this awhile ago and I think it put Saleh in a bit of a pinch. Everything I have read pointed to McDaniel being the more gifted coach. Kyle probably said he could take LaFleur but not McDaniel too.
This could be problematic for Saleh, in NY, if LaFleur's offense fails. Does he fire his best friend or just hang on him too long. LaFleur could turn out to be a great OC, I just haven't heard any praise, at this point, going his way.
They're both professionals though, so we'll see how it turns out.
