Wilson's strength and the reason he beat the Niners so often was his ability to extend plays and find an open receiver downfield. He doesn't move as well as he used to and his arm may not be quite as strong but this is about money and Wilson not fitting what Payton wants. If he's on the roster in April he gets a guaranteed $30 mil. They don't want to take a chance on him getting injured in the final 2 games and then not being able to be released because of it.
Wilson's other strength was a defense that played like the Ravens did the other night.
Every single f**king time we played Wilson, their defense always showed up.
How is it possible that Nick Mullens beat Wilson as many times as Garoppolo? It's because the Niners defense showed up on that rainy day in Santa Clara more than any other outing versus Wilson.
So in close games, yes, Wilson is dangerous. It only takes one THROW or sometimes TWO to win a game in those circumstances.....that last 11-10 game we lost to Denver, Wilson made one throw on one drive that won the damn game.
Was the worst game of the season for him, but hey, Wilson BEAT THE 49ers........
Man, nobody can see the big picture. Wilson's most valuable asset against SF was somehow channeling that defense to play to meteoric levels, something Geno or Lock could not do....
And maybe, just maybe.....some of that has to do with never having played against Brock Purdy.
