Just saw some of his highlights, and he looks like one of them Steelers - Patriots type of PASS RUSHER who needs to be lining up as a 3-4 OLB..

I'm just messing with you. I know what you mean.

But the 49ers don't view edge rushers that way. It doesn't matter if you're a "4-3 DE" or a "3-4 OLB," they're all EDGE, and if they can rush the passer, they've got a spot for them. Saleh brought that philosophy here, and it's clear DeMeco is carrying it on.

I can't really speak about his ability as a run defender since I've only seen him sparingly, but I will say this: He's ostensibly going to be a nickel/money down edge rushers in that Dee Ford role, so teams aren't expected to run in those situations. Also, teams run at this defense up the middle, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Trying to attack the edges against the wide 9 is a bad idea.

"3-4 OLB" play out of wide 9 alignments, so it's actually a more natural transition for a "3-4 OLB" into this scheme than a true, old school "4-3 DE."

From the clips that I've seen - this kid has a tremendous motor.
