They're keeping 3 QBs because they could still trade Jimmy before midseason if the right situation came up on another team that could have their starting QB go down for the season and yet are a playoff contender in the AFC.

What do you mean does not hurt cap situation ? It's 2m less to spend, no ?

2m less to spend, but they currently have ~20m to spend after the JImmy G restructure, so difference between 20m and 22m is relatively minor.
Who cares they wasted 2 million...it's not my money

So it does hurt the cap situation, but in your opinion 10% is not significant. Got it.

Will be complaining later when we don't sign someone cause lack of money. Cash rolls over so every bit counts

Exactly. It's not significant.

I mean, the babies and weak minded fans can lose sleep over a measly $2m insurance against not retaining Jimmy G as a backup or being able to draft Purdy, but I have real life with actual important matters to be concerned with instead.

Josh Rosen talent level.

I loved Rosen

I still think Rosen can be good or even above average.. if he ever lands a team w/a coach who believes in him, I think he could be good.

Cris Carter once told a story that his WR coach swore that he'll never see the field as long as he's the position coach... the minute he got let go and CC got his chance to play, even behind AC and HJ, he took advantage of that..
He's probably not too bummed. He gets 2 million and can pretty much pick any of 31 teams he wants to go to.

He can go anywhere but he can also come back to the 49er PS without having to go through waivers. That was outlined here a couple of days ago. I expect that to happen so as to have a third QB available in case a good trade offer comes up in the next week or two.

I would guess he already has such an agreement in hand.

Don't need to put a bounty for him to go down just tell him to throw a few footballs

This isn't Mullens and Beathard. Purdy could develop into a longterm backup and anytime between today and March, Jimmy could be gone, so it actually makes sense to keep 3 this time around. Would you rather Jimmy as the backup, "wasting 2 million" plus his backup salary for middle of the pack play or save 2 million and Jimmy's salary and go with Sudfeld?
