Wayne Gallman RB

Gallman is going to be part of the rotation even with the addition of the 2 rookies. He is a really strong runner.

lotta guys on one year deals. our two main guys were hurt last year extra game this year.. no. stacking the running back deck for this year and planning for the future is wise with the type of run first team we are as long as kyle is the coach

Yep, that's why the 2 RB picks make sense, they will both be signed thru 2024, while the other 3(Mostert, Wilson & Gallman) are only signed for 2021. If they do cut someone, it's likely Gallman, as Wilson's $2.05M is fully GTD, Mostert will likely start, but injuries will happen, so having Sermon & Mitchell will be great, I'd love to keep all 5, I hope they do, I don't see Mitchell passing waivers, especially if he shines in preseason.

I mean what do you do? We are going to cut some really good players.

Yep, our roster is deep and loaded, there will be some tough cuts that the team will have to make, maybe they'll try and trade some to get future picks, or try to get them on the PS.
The Gallman signing was probably opportunistic, "why the heck this guy is not on an NFL roster" move. Not in the plans, but too good to pass up. Like the signing of the released Raiders DEs.

Yep. This is exactly why I left Gallman as the odd-man out on my 53.

Yes this is what good teams do. Grab supplemental players before the draft in case the draft plan doesn't work then your butt is covered. On to training camp.
I highly doubt he makes the team

He'll most likely be placed on the practice squad Imo.

I see, Mostert, Wilson and the two rookies making the 53 come season time.

It'll be a hot competition. We could potentially carry five HB's on the 53 man if we choose to carry only eight OL and rely on the practice squad to stash the likes of Skule, Compton, etc. RB needy teams will be laying in wait for our final cut.

If the practice squad rules hold over to this year, we can have a few vets and issue protective status for them. Gallman could be a candidate for that.

I also think we have some trade fodder if there are injuries during pre-season. Trade Wilson or Gallman for a slot receiver if Serman and Mitchell really step up.
The only way he makes the team is if somebody suffers a season ending injury or gets traded

The RB battle at camp is going to be INSANE. I've never seen this much running talent on the 49ers ever - and I mean going back to the dynasty years.

Yeah..its insanely deep. If we lost our top 2 guys I'd still be good with the remainders. I'm hoping whoever is cut can be flipped for a pick. Hopefully Hasty put enough on film last year that he can be flipped for a 7th. If not, I think he can stick on a PS, but you gotta watch for a team like NY lol. Idk what their RB situation is, but assuming it isn't nearly ours.
Maybe they can trade a couple of their backs for linebacker depth
