Yup, that's what I've been saying. We can't afford to splurge on such a small, niche role. It would be one thing if Key was as good from edge as he is from inside, but he isn't. Some team desperate for pass rushers will probably overpay for his services and be extremely disappointed if they use him as full-time edge player.

That said, I'd love to have him back in the same role on the cheap.

Definitely a key player for us. Had his share of key moments. Unlocked our pass rush potential. Really opened some doors for us.

I see what you did there.
What if it came down to a multi-year deal for DJ Jones or Arden Key?

Jones. It would be different if Key was a guy you could line up on the outside and win versus tackles. So far he's shown that in certain situations he can beat guards.

Jones by far. He's extremely important to this defense.

RRead the replies above and below

Jones is more important hands down
Who stayed on the field most...Jones or Key? Resign that guy.

Lol

If it wasn't for a Jones and Armstead great run defense on the inside it would have made getting Arden key on the field that much more difficult due to the fact that he's mostly a role player in this defensive system and can't be used on any down and distance

Even though they take Jones off the field on obvious passing Downs he's still shown ability to be able to rush the passer more so than key has shown the ability to stop the run on the inside
Idk about this guy…. Can't pay him for picking up a few sacks here and there he needs to show consistency and health

they literally traded our most healthy and consistent d/l and gave an extension to armstead for showing flashes in a year where bosa and dee ford were eating lol... anything is possible.
I think we could have a real nice interior next year on pass rush downs bringing AA, DJJ, Kinlaw, and Givens in waves.

I think we might draft an interior DL for insurance if we can't afford to keep Key.
