Don't be surprised if a team, say the Dolphins with a particular HC with familiarity of Key and a boatload of FA money comes calling and we decline to get into a bidding war. Obviously I hope he stays, signs another 1-year deal, has another good year and cashed in big time. But he may see the $$ elsewhere this offseason and bolt.

Not this again. Just like Saleh signed all the FA niners last year?

Saleh (a defensive-minded coach) took Tevin Coleman. McDaniel (an offensive-minded coach) could do the reciprocal…

Key looks good, but a bidding war for a player with ONE year worth of production would be a horrible start to McDaniel's tenure. If anything, he will have learned the value in building a team through the draft. He saw the talent level of the team rise by good drafting, not by expensive free agent signings. One could argue expensive free agents signings have been more harmful then helpful. I see if anything, maybe a Jeff Wilson going there. Someone that won't cost much, but knows the system well.

If they have a boatload of FA money, why not spend it on proven commodity? Not a player who's had one good year.

Exactly.
It depends on what defensive system McDaniel's chooses to use because I believe the Dolphins currently run a 3-4 system.

So if they choose to change over to a wide 9 4-3 system it may take a year or two.

Truthfully if he wants to have success on the defensive side of the ball immediately he should just hire Vic fangio as his defensive coordinator and continue to build within the current system

Afree the Kerry Hyder failure, that would be stupid. Big money on a player with 1 year of production for the 49ers?

Yeah everyone keeps thinking Key is going to get a a huge deal for a half of a year production. Key's agent is telling him to stay with the 49ers on a 1 year deal so he can replicate his success and cash in big for 2023. Key would be stupid to go somewhere else on a mid-tier contract where he might not be used the right and he basically lands in Hyder's situation right now.
Maybe you guys are right about Seattle over paying him, and then maybe he'll revert back to what he was with the Raiders lol

Then Hyder returns to us and becomes 8 (or more) sacks guy with Kocurek

Now that would be funny. The Seahawks signed Hyder and put him inside. If they sign Key and leave him outside, it'll be the same s**t again.

I don't understand the Seahawk's logic behind signing Hyder and putting him inside. They saw him shine in the wide 9 at edge, so they signed him and moved him away from that... I hope they cut him. I'd love to have him back.

LOL Carroll needs to retire, Wilson been saving his sorry ass all these years. I can't wait for the tables to turn when we start sweeping that ass

I kinda want both but I think we are "full" on D-line.

Omenihu, Bosa, Ebukam (restructured deal), a rookie speed rusher, and Hyder (on a vet min if Seattle releases him) at edge and Jones, Armstead, Key, Givens, and Kinlaw inside. Probably 1 too many lol.

Truth. Man, that's a lot of talent and depth. Maybe stash rookie on the PS if we get one.
