This dude needs to keep his mouth shut and prove he's worth keeping around. Lol at throwing shade at the Raiders after they cut his ass for being trash.

My hope is that the Kocurek factor will help him reach his potential. Key is big, long armed and fast. He was a blue chip player from a big name college. Kocurek has this Yarborough guy wreaking havok in camp, and he will most likely not make the team. Dude is one of the higher paid assistants in the league and is worth all the money they are paying him.

He's actually not big, long, or fast at all. He's tall(almost 6'5") but has short arms for that height(33.5"). He's ridiculously undersized and played at 235 lbs during best season as a Sophomore at LSU. Additionally, despite being only 238 lbs during the draft process, the guy ran a pedestrian hand-timed 4.85 at his pro day--not fast whatsoever.
Arden Key says he's 235. #LSU coaches want him to get to 245-250 for next season. pic.twitter.com/1wBg0a5E9U

He put on 30 lbs the following season at LSU and lost every bit of explosiveness that he had, which completely crippled him because he has no power or hand game to fall back on. I think that's why he dropped down to 238 lbs at the combine. As disgustingly light as that is for an NFL edge, it's probably best for him to play in the 230s as a situational pass rusher because that's where he had the most success.
I remember evaluating this dude and being completely baffled by his hype. His tape was super underwhelming. He had a speed rush and nothing else. His hand technique is terrible, he has no counter and he's an absolute liability in run defense. He would get manhandled by tight ends and shy away from contact. Also, there were times where he would completely check out--his effort was a major red flag. The worst part his game that I knew would bite him in the ass in the NFL is that his only trick, his speed rush, wasn't anything special, either. He wasn't super bendy like a Von Miller or explosive like a Dee Ford. I think people saw his sack total and hyped him up.
Fortunately for him, he's now in the most pass-rush-friendly scheme in the league under the guy I believe to be the best DL coach in the league. So, if he's going to do anything, it'll be here.

Teams are always working out guys like Key. They just had a guy named Eddie Vanderdoes in for a workout. The life of these fringe players that are constantly fighting for a roster spot is like a gypsy. They go around the country trying out for one team after another. Then they finally get signed by a team only to be cut again a couple of weeks later. Maybe they find another spot or get called back by the team that cut them. Then they might get cut again.
Constantly moving around and finding a place to live. They can't get much of a job in another field if they keep going around the country trying to make a team. So many never get a chance to settle anywhere. I wonder what the record number of tryouts is for one player. This is the unglamorous side of football that is so common but rarely written about.

Key is talking as if he's a lock to make the final roster but I guess having Jordan Willis suspended helps him

I always had him as a lock, I had Willis as the 5th, but when he got suspended, I didn't know who be 5th, now that's Key, thanks to Dee being healthy it seems.
Quick contract note, he has $200K in playtime incentives, but they don't count against the cap, so his cap number is actually $1.045M just like Hurst's, not the $1.245M that OTC has, I'll have to let them know what I was told.
As for the DL, I have 10 locks, DE- Bosa, Ford, Ebukam, Key, DE/DT- Armstead, DT- Kinlaw, Givens, Hurst, NT- Jones, Kerr, I know Street is having a good camp, but not sure where he could fit in, unless Kyle finally goes with 2 QBs(Jimmy & Trey), then I'd be for keeping Street, he's a RFA in 2022, since he spent 2018 on NFI, he only has 2 accrued seasons, so once he completes 2021, he'll have 3, which will make him a RFA. Luckily Givens is a ERFA in 2022, only a $895K tender. I imagine Kerr, Hurst, & Key could be had back for low deals, Jones I hope is back in 2022, I'd go $5M a yr on a multi year deal, but that's me, I love DJ, his motor, the fact that he ran down Kyler Murray and sacked him not once but twice, at his size, I loved it.
