I agree they all should get private coaching too.

Kyle's scheme gets the most out of his QB's...not his attention to detail on mechanics.

Maybe a 49ers QB Coach could help. LOL

I said over and over players learn the most in the off season and with position gurus. The only BS is you putting words in my mouth. clearly past NFL players agree.

yes Jimmy has bad mechanics overall had it before he came here. HE'S SUPPOSE TO WORKS ON THAT, that's something done in the off season overall. Same for every position.

You honestly think Kyle is sitting there working on QB mechanics lol? Why do you think he told Trey to take those 40 days before TC and work with Beck/Avery?

during the season it's all about film, recovery, and installing the weekly game plan.

so this whole he can't develop a QB is dumb.

Good. You agree with me now. LOL

Wow. Relevant to this day. The true quarterback whisperer. He built the truck, then programmed the road course. No wonder wco lasted like no other scheme, 10 years really.
Mechanics are important but a feel for the game is more important. Mahomes doesn't have great mechanics and often throws sidearm or off the wrong foot. I've seen others over the years that have also been successful without perfect mechanics. If there's a flaw that is causing a QB to miss high all the time or doesn't allow him to accurately throw deep than it should be corrected. On the other hand if a QB consistently makes all the throws but doesn't look pretty doing it, I'm not going to mess with his mechanics.

Yup. Rivers had the ugliest release I've ever seen and he had a great career. If a QB has a good pocket presence, can read a defense, and has a good arm, mechanics are then overated.

Unfortunately the pocket presence and general feel for the game are intangibles that are hard to evaluate in college where many of these QBs play against inferior competition on a regular basis. You can't see that part of their game until they get in the NFL and face real pressure. Presence and feel for the game were probably Montana's greatest assets since he wasn't big and didn't have a great arm. Since it's something that's so hard to evaluate in college teams have to make their picks off of metrics which only tell part of the story. That's why there are so many busts. Many great arms have died in the NFL because the head wasn't there to control them.

Yeah, there's a lot to mechanics esp. in a WCO where the number of and kind of drop steps are tied to WR routes. Mobility in the pocket (balance + mechanics). Then there's your focus...off schedule plays and improvisations where perfect mechanics get thrown out the window and athleticism prevails.

Ya pocket presence is very key if you want to be a really good QB. It's hard to think of any that were really great and didn't have that ability.

And like you said, scouting it is nearly impossible and you really won't know what u got until that QB suits up. If it's not good, most likely you got a bust, bc pocket presence is also very hard to teach.
If you look around pretty much every rookie played like s**t. Throwing 3 interceptions can sometimes really crush a young rookie. There's absolutely no reason to rush Trey.

Not all of them

Every QB and QB coach in the NFL I've heard or read speaking about it says most of that is done by the player with private instruction. There's too much other stuff to worry about in camp, especially with the shortened time coaches have.
Didn't get his number called today. I think we'll see him against GB

Just win baby. put this guy on the backburner except for blowouts.

The best thing for trey and the team is that we finish the season and the trey lance thread has 1051 pages in it.

Maybe set up for qb boot camp for him a la mike mccarthy and integrate it into the practice itinerary.
