Lol then he should have NEVER spent 3 1sts on a 20 yr old that played one season of football…ya'll want development yet don't want to put the time in to develop him overall.
It doesnt HAVE to be one or the other, though.

I expect him to sprinkle in some Lance against the Packers. Night game at home against a so so defense is a much better opportunity for him to get a few snaps.
I agree with this. I think Trey gets some snaps with the Packers for sure. At home - on national TV - a week before we play Seahawks - might be a good time to try for couple of big plays with Lance.

Didn't kyle say the last thing he wants is for Trey to go another full year without any work?
Now he says he's not going to put him in just to get reps?
Seems conflicting. Hope to see more of Trey!

That's my problem with not playing Lance.
If someone wants to argue - Jimmy G is better right now and gives us better chance to win right now - I won't argue that.
But, I believe - faster we get Lance ready - faster we are on track to truly contend for SuperBowl - year in and year out. That should be our 1st priority. I am even OK with Jimmy starting but at least give Lance 5-10 snaps a game early in the season and let him figure it out some things. If he looks like he can hack it - I'd start him in 2nd half of the season.
Personally, I don't think this team is Superbowl contender - I'd love to be wrong about that but I think team isn't as good as the team that went to Superbowl and on this team and therefore Jimmy G has to be a damn good QB (not just a good game manager) to win playoffs game.
So, with that - I think we are better off developing Lance this season and get him ready for 2022 season or it may be a 2 year development and get him ready to compete for Superbowl in 2023.

The only thing people can point to as not to panic about Trey not playing as much as people wanted is pointing to Mahomes.
Now Mahomes had other issues to work on and he certainly had a lot more experience than Trey and also didn't play just 1 game his final season in college but he sat pretty much all year behind Alex and then had one of the best 2nd seasons in NFL history and hasn't really looked back as the Chiefs have been to 3 AFC Championships and 2 SBs winning one of them :(
I would definitely argue that this team is just as good if not better than the 2019 team. Our receivers are better(even if Aiyuk seems to be down right now) and while we don't have Buckner for the ultra insane pass rush, our overall depth is better on the DL than it was that year (obviously injuries change everything) losing Verrett was a real blow but this defense goes as far as the DL takes it. Warner is better than he was, Greenlaw looks to be improved and so is Azeez.
Biggest thing is I think our OL is much better. So I think our roster is definitely SB level but the QB play cannot be an issue. Jimmy needs to be consistent when he's out there. He doesn't offer the same big play/scheme versatility that Lance would provide but he does fit in well with the roster we have now YAC receivers. He just needs to avoid bad throws and mistakes.

If Lance cant develop on the practice field he was never going to make it in the NFL

I'm with you on the sink or swim part, Trey absolutely has to play. My belief is Kyle simply feels Trey isn't even ready for that at this point. Probably having second thoughts about that trade but that's not even the point. If he thought Trey was capable, he would be out there now.
Think Kyle knew all along Trey needed time. I argued with NY about that very thing with Trey in the draft thread. No way he was gonna be ready as a rookie.
I doubt Kyle regrets anything right now. He's not Brian Flores or Chris Grier.
All I said was in order for him to get better he has to play football. I also think Kyle can absolutely tailor an offense around him to put points on the board all the same.

how many physical phenoms at QB have had a few/1 game wonders because they lack the fundamentals?
Thats why fad offenses are successful for a season then fizzle out
Can KS design an offense around him? yes but that will be a limiting offense in terms of plays. Id rather have him work on his fundamentals first

There's no question about that.

I think it's simply about what Kyle thinks gives us the best chance to win.

I wonder if Shanahan is playing a shell game with Lance. By playing him sporadically, teams have to decide whether to spend practice time in preparing for him.

Scheme and playcalling wasn't the issue Sunday.

It's unusual for a team that is playoff caliber to draft a QB that high. It makes it far less likely that he'll get much playing time unless the established starter goes down.
