Its been 2 weeks, and all Mac has done is throw checkdowns. His ceiling is Andy Dalton.

Yeah, guy is a statue back there and all he does it hit 10 yard passes.

Natural emotion,...but he has the advantage of playing and giving you that vibe.

Can you let Mac throw for more than 1 TD on the year before going all in on him though?

He's had his moments but if the decision's going to happen now, you should say he should've been taken before Zach Wilson and Trevor Lawrence as well.

The lower you go, generally the better roster you are going to for early success. But by your rushed logic Mac should've been #1 Overall and have never been a 49er anyway.

Yup we clearly screwed up. Trey Lance first NFL pass = TD
Mac Jones first NFL pass =

Actually love the way Jones points to the "eligible receiver" right after the spike. Whoa. That's a thinking QB.

Not sure the refs bought it but it's a good try.

Which is pretty amazing when you consider how great the Jags and Jets are and the Pats are a terrible team.
I thought this was an interesting comparison to show how much more college experience Kaep had vs Lance.

Keep in mind, Kaep sat his entire rookie season in 2011 until taking over midway through 2012.

KAEP: 4 year starter
740 out of 1271; 58.2%; 10,098 yards; 82 TDs; 24 INTs; 142.5 rating

LANCE: 1 year starter (plus 1 game)
208 out of 318; 65.4%; 2,947 yards; 30 TDs; 1 INT; 173.8 rating

So, what's the takeaway? Am I suggesting they are identical QBs or the same prospect coming out? Of course not. But there is something to be said for gaining experience through live college reps--whether its under center, shotgun, pistol, etc. Kaep was called "raw" when he entered the league. "Needs time to learn." Coming from a pistol offense, that was understandable.

But the same has been said about Lance. And again, rightfully so. While I do agree the best way to learn is by playing, that should NOT occur at the expense of a playoff- or Super Bowl-ready team.

Lance WILL learn by watching and getting around 5 snaps per game. And maybe he does come in for extended duty if Jimmy gets hurt or there's a blowout win.

But Lance is just not ready yet. And that's OK. I mean, the official Lance thread is called "QB of the future".

Future. Not today.

Smart smart argument. The leading qbr qb plays for a 1-2 team. Another top 10 qbr plays for an 0-2 team, jones. Acouple other play for 500 teams -- hurts winston.

But as usual in this forum any stat which proves your point is obviously ground truth, but any which disprove your point are poo poo.

one reason Jones is having a better year so far, is that he is older and what looks like more composed.

When you throw kids into the fire, they get burned.

Maybe, exaggerating a little bit - but, still a little overrated.

It's funny to watch the analysts hate on mac jones. Lots of professional reputations at stake for the measurables guys. "Looks like the michelin man. Can't possibly succeed." Oh yea, they'll be jumping on every mistake...even when they are not mistakes....

What's overrated? just sayin he leads rookies in qbr. Pretty low key statement. and true.

All his competitions are 10 -15 yard variety. That's why his QBR is so high.

Ah. I didn't know that.

QBR measures mediocrity.

It's a measure of how mediocre quarterbacks are.

Good to know. Thanks for pointing that out.

What's the stat we should be looking at then? Which is the stat that shows how good a quarterback is?

Let's look at that one.

(I bet jones will still be higher than Lawrence or Wilson.)

Not sure the refs bought it but it's a good try.

Would you have loved him throwing to the open back for a 1st down even more?

Sure. Was there one? looked like he would not have had the pass under control if he tried it due to getting whacked.

Seems like getting rid of it was a good option too. maybe a better play, since he kept control of where the ball was going (in the ground).

I'm ok with it. There's a lot of qb's who would try to make the crazy play. Which often ends in tears.
