I thought this was an interesting comparison to show how much more college experience Kaep had vs Lance.
Keep in mind, Kaep
sat his entire rookie season in 2011 until taking over midway through 2012.
KAEP: 4 year starter
740 out of 1271; 58.2%; 10,098 yards; 82 TDs; 24 INTs; 142.5 rating
LANCE: 1 year starter (plus 1 game)
208 out of 318; 65.4%; 2,947 yards; 30 TDs; 1 INT; 173.8 rating
So, what's the takeaway? Am I suggesting they are identical QBs or the same prospect coming out? Of course not. But there is something to be said for gaining experience through live college reps--whether its under center, shotgun, pistol, etc. Kaep was called "raw" when he entered the league. "Needs time to learn." Coming from a pistol offense, that was understandable.
But the same has been said about Lance. And again, rightfully so. While I do agree the best way to learn is by playing, that should NOT occur at the expense of a playoff- or Super Bowl-ready team.
Lance WILL learn by watching and getting around 5 snaps per game. And maybe he does come in for extended duty if Jimmy gets hurt or there's a blowout win.
But Lance is just not ready yet. And that's OK. I mean, the official Lance thread is called "QB of the future".
Future. Not today.
