This is concerning. And tbh, I remember watching tape of Kaepernick's first start as a freshman vs Boise State (the game that went three OTs and 50+ points scored) and I don't remember such egregious misses.

Lance is a big project right now. I'm sure Kyle will make it a lot easier for him, but his accuracy needs to be addressed fast imo.

Go watch his footwork now during his pro days...it's night and day. He finally got a legit QB coach teaching him mechanics. Do you serious think John Beck would have signed off on Lance to his buddy Kyle if he thought it was a "serious issue"? nah dude.

Kap ran a pistol offense in Nevada. What he was asked to do vs what Lance was asked to do weren't in the same ball park.

Accuracy is all about your low half and that's something that has been cleaned up a f**k ton from everything I've been seeing. You wanted to see some s**tty film go watch Josh Allen vs Boise State or Mahomes vs Iowa State or a handle of games from Herbert last yr.

Lance is NOT a project.

GB had limited knowledge of Kap at this point, but they knew he had a big arm and they were out of FG range at that point. GB's defense played "prevent" and Kap had like a 15-yd run up the middle, leading to a 62-yd fg by David Akers. I think that's what we should expect. Either long pass play possibilities or designed scrambles.

Good call. I can also see Shanahan dial up some plays for Lance in the red-zone later in the season.

Later in the season??????? Your joking right???I would use him in the red zone from game 1. No more red zone struggles

This is an amazing throw...gotta catch it

ayiuk/Deebo catches this

I wonder if there will be situations where we use him like Taysom Hill. I wouldn't put it past Shanahan to create a package to have Lance in with Jimmy, and now defenses have to be even more alert. He certainly could, but I don't think he would. I think the focus is long-term development to do the things that he'll be doing in the long-run.

So I feel a more likely scenario for Lance to hit the field over Jimmy, is obvious running situations. Because of Lance's ability as a runner, Shanahan can create a package where we'll most likely run... but now we have QB Power and Read Option in the equation as well, along with the threat of Play Action passes.

It would seem, as a general rule, counterproductive to the offensive flow to have plays where Jimmy comes out and Trey comes in... but New Orleans did it. Lance is an actual quarterback though and Hill was/is expendable enough that you can expose him to hits you wouldn't want Lance to take. I could see some of the first opportunities coming in oddball situations or cases where Shanny wanted to stress opposing coaches into calling timeouts. Examples would be 4th and 1 situations where Lance can be working on some specific packages, or maybe he is in as a FG holder when we have a timeout to burn and we want the opposing team to burn one. It would really be something if he could punt even a little bit to really freak some people out. Throw him out in pre-season and let him kick one. If he does a good job have him jog off the field like everyone expected it then never do it again until you need to mess with someone. I don't expect that last one in particular, but I'm sure Kyle has some ideas.

Do you know if Lance's sometimes erratic throws in college correlate with poor footwork? I have been curious about that for at least five days now! Kyle did mention his level of QB technique coaching was basically getting them to set their feet up properly, and I wondered if he might have been thinkin about Lance when he mentioned it.

Lance was also 19 on that tape. I live in Tahoe and saw Kap play at age 19 in person and - believe it or not - he did not look like a QB. I saw him play next year as well when he was 20 (turned 21 during season) - and he still didn't look like someone who may get drafted as a QB in the NFL.

In short - If Kap stopped playing after his first year in college - he would not have gotten drafted. Lance was a surefire top 10 pick in this draft. So, that should tell you how poor that comparison is.

It was his senior year when he showed quite a bit of improvement on his accuracy. So, you can imagine how bad he was during his first couple years in college.

Lance's accuracy is soooo much better than Kap ever was in college and like I mentioned - Lance turned 19 in May of 2019 and played that entire year without throwing an INT. I fully expect Lance to have already improved his accuracy - as he has been working on it for last few months. And unlike Kap - Lance comes off as a guy who wants to work on his weaknesses just as much on his strengths. That gives me all the confidence that he'll improve his accuracy drastically within the first couple years in NFL like most greats have done so in the past.

I am talking about Kaepernick when he came to the Niners vs Lance when he came to the Niners. I understand that Lance is younger and had less reps, but again - we can only watch what is front of us tape-wise.

I understand - but that's my point - you're comparing a 24 year Kaep vs a 19 year old Lance.

I also don't remember the game very well either - it was a long time ago but looking strictly at the statistics - he was 11 for 26 in that Boise game but gashed them in the run game. I am sure he missed quite a few easy throws if he was 11 for 26. Will have to check it out again once I reach home.

Like I said - I think accuracy is an issue with Lance - but in my personal opinion - it is way overblown. He was also playing with really poor WRs who often ran bad routes. It's really difficult to judge if the throws were off or if the route was off.
