Looking foward to 15 years of Trey in a Niner uniform.

If you believe that you don't know football. This kid is fundamentally sound as a pocket QB. He just happens to have jets at the bottom of his legs that make him exceptional when combined with his 6'4", 224 lb frame. With his speed and power he can quickly discourage some DBs from trying to stop him.

We will see who's right in the end

I'm hoping 20yrs, wouldn't need to draft a QB till he's well OLD like Rodgers, except I think Lance would be better with it, since he is coming it, and wants to learn everything he can from JG, unlike how Brady wasn't happy with Jimmy behind him, and Favre having Rodgers behind him, now Rodgers with Love behind him.

What does that matter?

You can watch Kap in college and watch Lance and see what they were asked to do and clearly see they are not the same player.

I'll bet money if he was white you wouldn't say Kap at all...it's a lazy stale comp.
Trade trey lance + somthing else for Aaron Rodgers.

if he's on the market we absolutely must do all we can to get him

First off - I am a Jimmy fan. His cool leadership brought a lot of confidence to this team. Always appreciate the heck out of that.

Second, I was skeptical of all these QBs. But after watching Trey a lot this weekend I am way more confident this young guy could play way sooner than expected.

BUT, after watching hours of Trey Lance tape it becomes WAY MORE obvious that elements to his game that are missing in Jimmy, which I am sad to say. There is a lot to Trey's game that he needs to perfect with reps, but what he does naturally jumps off the screen when you watch it all together.

What Trey does so naturally that are real limitations in Jimmy's game, Trey...
1. instinctively climbs the pocket and finds a lane to throw
2. can actually drive the ball on out throws and deep out throws
3. has great touch into small windows on deep balls (some of his high arch throws remind me off Russel Wilson)
4. when he rolls outside the pocket he doesn't need to slow or stop his feet to throw
5. his hips follow his eyes / snap quickly on read progressions
6. he is strong in the pocket with defenders near or touching him (similar to Rothlesberger - we'll see if that stays true at the NFL level) Jimmy was fearless throwing with a guy in his face, but guys in his feet were a huge problem to his ability to drive the ball. Lance has the arm strength to drive the ball even as his feet are being moved.

We can't even compare the running ability, its stunning that such a big guy is that fast and elusive. (Kap was an amazing runner, but not nearly as elusive.)

It is super hard to tell with the jump in the level of competition, but I personally see a kid now that can take Shannahan's tutelage and start sooner than many would believe. Shannahan has shown before that he is willing to start rookies with way less talent than Trey - Griffin, Bethard, and even Mullens. Yes, some by necessity, but he didn't not taper back the game plan immensely for those guys.

I concur.

Jimmy does know the playbook though, and he's seen a lot of what NFL defenses have to offer. These are pretty massive (temporary) advantages, which give him a leg up to open week 1 as the starter.

Rodgers is 37. I would have done it before we traded up to 3. I know Shanahan allegedly called about it last week, but that ship has sailed IMHO.

Absolutely do not bring that BS white vs black b******t in here. Leave that out of sports.

And his body type height speed and frame does look like kaep. Between the ears remains to be seen but he absolutely has the same build

He really isn't.

The Macavoy? Interview talked about how Lance has not had formal QB mentoring/training until recently ( late 2020 early 2021)

He made it a point to talk about how Lance has gotten along on sheer physical skill and memory retention.

Lance was not drafted because of what he has done at the college level, he was drafted for a very rare physical skill set and an amazing brain.

I went from somewhat anti Lance to highly pro Lance based on that interview.

I think Lance is going to be amazing, but he looked horrific at times in college. There is no reason to sugar coat that, we know he did not have the coaching he needed at the college level.

What people are saying about Lance is no different then what you could say about Steve Young at Tampa.

Who cares what Lance was, 49ers Lance has the tool and the support/coaching to be an all time 49er great QB.

It's going to be a fun decade.

He's more sound in the pocket than Kap, and in some ways even Jimmy. Lance seems to feel the rush MUCH better than Jimmy, who often times seems completely oblivious.

I am in the minority but I wouldn't do that. Part of drafting a QB is so we could get him on a rookie deal and get to keep all our star players. Plus Rodgers is 37 and a whining baby. I don't see him and Kyle getting along.

To know that Kyle was obsessing over how to utilize Lance makes me super pumped.

Looking forward to some John Elway type long bombs!

I think the fact that Trey is 2-3 years younger than Fields made the biggest difference. The kid is very mature for a 19 year old and already has a Pro Style foundation. Not often to NFL coaches get a chance to mold a 19 year-old QB that hasn't been "corrupted" by the college gimmicks.

Peter King article (good read), Kyle was obsessing about what he could do with this type of QB to the point where he wasn't able to sleep.

We are in a good place. We have a legit NFL starting QB in Jimmy and Kyle gets to mold a bright talent.

1 year and 4 days.

I doubt the age played a factor. I think they simply felt there was less to teach with Lance than FIelds. I was more in favor of Fields because IMO it's easier to teach someone how to run a pro offense vs how to be more accurate but I'll trust our guys on this one.

I am definitely pumped we have a guy who has the full package. I think the draft shows we're ready to get back to old school football but with a new school breed of QB to take advantage.

If you think about it with the way the NFL is such a heavy pass league you have a lot more pass stopping defenses. Smaller, faster players who can cover well.

Would be a damn shame if we had an offense who could run all over these smaller dudes. Our receivers are all YAC masters and now we added a QB who needs to be accounted for in the run game as well, and a QB who can attack all areas of the field.

Kyle is going to have some fun.

Totally agree. as a fan, ill have fun right along with him!

Oh I'll bring it up...again if he was white there wouldn't be a single Kap comp. they don't play the position the same at all. It's a piss poor comp.

Why not Wentz? Why not Herbert? Why not Tannehill?

Fascinating if true. Did it come directly from Shannhan or Lynch or is this more media nonsense?

makes sense, he's familiar with all our concepts and comfortable playing under center. His mechanics aren't broken and have vastly improved from his tape to now (never worked with QB coaches before, big difference in his mechanics over the past 6 months). i'm not worried about his accuracy.
Hard to believe.
He looked really good mechanics-wise in his second pro day.
